    Hey Cyber, since you reminded me you can fix things on epic, could you perhaps update the escort to the newer version? Vipers has it on.

    also, it was a bit of a shame when the updated version got voted in, but it caused errors so everyone switched to vipers. I guess we will have to wait untill weekend.

    I will do that now.
    EDIT: Nope I don't know what you mean, there is only emp_escort on the server. Is escort broken? Should I de-cycle it until the dev team fixes it?
    EDIT 2: There are no errors on escort...

    The viper has a different version, at least as far as scripts go.

    Im sorry if im mistaken in thinking its an actual *map* update, but vipers is bit a bit better what with disabling heavies for be.

    VIPER has a version with heavies disabled; it's technically neither newer nor older, just the current version without heavies (which is done with a line in a .cfg file).

    Erm, by "do the same", do you mean that cfg change? Isn't that just a cfg script file?

    Would be nice if we increased the respawns on the vf, right now its 3, which in long rounds is easy to accomplish when they squad arty it from outside base.

    Which happens maybe once a year.

    Also if you loose a vf once, just run around the first flag. Its not like the gren is going to have hide. A cam or two will solve the problem

    Escort is meant to be won by BE 80% of the time or something. The only things that need changing are the initial resources because they allow BE to build up too many heavies at the start, as well as going back to the old system where BE had to cap a flag to get like +600 tickets, rather than starting with like 3000 or whatever.

    so since be is meant to win 80% of the time, is escort meant to take 3x the amount of time a normal game of empires takes?

    Yeah that's my real problem with it, it turns into one of the longest grinds in this game. I've really started quitting when it shows up because I just can't be arsed to sit there for the next hour knowing either I'm going to lose from the start or win but I have to wait ages for it to finish.

    Heavies help the final flag grind by quite a bit.

    Are you guys serious?

    With tickets being used, Escort also guarantees that it'd end at most 45~50 minutes, I really don't see a problem with that.

    Not to mention the process is really 250 times more exciting than slaughtered s-bend or any other boring shit that lasted for 70 minutes and no one complained.

    because a 70 minute slaughtered game (which doesnt happen alot of the time) justifies constant 50 minute games in tight ass spaces for the past 7 years
    so fucking fun

    I don't think I ever had fun on escort, even when I first started to play and then resumed to regularly.

    Maybe it's a little less drastic in larger pops, but escort is kinda terrible below 20 players.

    One of my problems with escort is that it takes 4 people to retake flags no matter what the playercount is. 4 people is half a team on some of the more recent games I've been able to play. Nf really have no choice but to lose because they cant retake areas and stop BE gaining tickets/time.

    Then that's an issue with Escort in general and the general opinion towards the map. It doesn't change the point of the map. Whether the fact it's meant to be won by BE 80% of the time is a good thing or a bad thing can be debated. But that doesn't change the fact that it's meant to be like that.

    If the average Empires game now takes 17-20 minutes then that's a really sad state of affairs. Empires games should be lasting anywhere from 30-60 minutes. I know they aren't, but that's not intended, and it's a real shame. If I could honestly work out why games end so much quicker now than they did 5 years ago, then I'd do everything I could to change it, but I really don't know why.

    As for Escort itself, it'll only take that amount of time when NF win. So your argument is kind of flawed because while complaining about BE winning too easily with Heavies, you can't then complain that Escort always lasts too long, because if BE are winning then it's more than likely not taking 50 minutes, because they've capped the flags before their timer has run out, meaning it's more likely that you're getting 20-30 minute rounds at best.

    If you're regularly getting long rounds then it's because NF are winning a lot (too much), which might well be a result of BE NOT HAVING HEAVIES.

    But as I said, it would be easier for NF to win and the rounds would regularly be shorter if BE started at 600 tickets and just got +600 for each flag, meaning a maximum gametime of 50 minutes, just as it is now.
