Engineers with C4/Dynamite

    Did a general search but didn't find anything so...

    Engineers have seismics which is most effective towards buildings/turrets. Now, my idea is the same but with the use of C4.

    In the weapon selection screen, the engineer would be allowed to choose between seismics and one (1) C4. The C4 charges cannot be replenished from an ammo box or armory until the player is killed and spawned from a barracks again. Doing the class-change-rearm trick would also not work. YOU MUST DIE AND RESPAWN.

    How to use the C4: The C4 could be placed anywhere but water. The time it takes to set the C4 would be the same as the time it takes for a scout to sabotage a building. The C4 can detonate remotely. After being placed on a building, when set off, 75% damage occurs (to a building in direct contact).

    As for anti infantry, it could be placed on walls and the ground, and when the enemy is close enough, boom.

    Active C4 charges can be disarmed by the enemy engineer, and the enemy engineer would notice since:
    1. You happen to see a square object slightly blinking (Hope it isn't too hard to make).
    2. Going along with Gren's Mine Radar, you will see a small blip on the minimap if close enough.

    The idea is: Seismic can be spammed to destroy buildings slowly, while C4s give you a one shot hard damage. When it comes to turrents and Area-of-effect, not sure how that would be played out.

    Feel free to improve or to kill it with fire.

    EDIT: I realized that 75% is too strong since the engineer could detonate and quickly deconstruct. 50% seems more reasonable. Another way to solving this is forcing the engineer to run away a far distance to detonate since the damage is much greater towards himself. Also, an armed C4 becomes disarmed when the engineer who placed it dies before detonating.

    The only real reason I'd like to see planted explosives in the game is so they could be used for more interesting objectives or map devices, with brushes that can only be destroyed by a planted explosive that the other team can defuse. It'd make, say, that wall on Escort more interesting, and it's easy to see how it could be worked into comm maps, too.

    This would mean no remote detonation, obviously, and no way to short the timer. Also, the mapper would have a way to set it up so the other team gets a warning when a bomb is planted there.

    And if it's being added for that, it could also be used to destroy structures with warnings etc. But that wouldn't be the main purpose; the main purpose would be to allow for more interesting sub-objectives in maps.

    I'd like to see C4 for killing map buildables.

    people didnt like the map, empires players frow on small objective oriented maps so it seems (you had to blow a hatch to enter the main bunker, engineers had to build a constructible and on built it started to count down)

    You can create C4 for map buildables, placed by engineers, by having engineers build something, which triggers a bomb. Basically, imagine a wall with a buildable that looks like a bomb. Once built, it triggers a countdown timer, if it's not destroyed in time, it'll blow up, destroying the wall.

    I wanted the engineer to have more options when customizing weapons.

    Rifleman have a 2nd pistol and 3 rifles, scouts has 3 main weapons and 3 nades, grens have the extra pistol, while the engineer can only choose between SMG1 and SMG2.

    As for the C4 being "weak", the idea is to have someone else with you to help destroy a building, like a LT/AFV. The enemy team might not be quick enough to kill spawn and save the barracks.

    engineers have the calculator, they can spawn 2 different turret types, with the right skill they can even upgrade them, 2 surveilance tools an ammo crate and walls.

    i think thats enough diversity.

    I think you are forgetting all the shit the engineer can build. And everyone still plays engineer more than any other class, for its versatility.
    If anything, the ability of engis to destroy buildings with seismics should be moved to the grenadiers.

    Then you can choose to take one C4 with you, which can't be refilled or infinite grenades (with your ammo box).

    So guess, what people will choose?

    If you are in a squad, a C4 would be more effective. Have one engineer seismic while you do an instant 50% damage.

    And people go engineers because something always needs to be built.
