Okay, I tested this last night on cyclo. Engis can place turrets under water. On a map like cyclopean this can be just ridiculously cheap. A lvl 3 turret in the middle of the water can not be stopped except by a hidden scout. In the dark water, you can not see the turret and have no idea where it is. I for one do not think turrets should be able to shoot under water at all, but the fact they can not be seen and still shoot you makes it worse. So what do you think? Bug or legitimate strategy?
Legit or bug... hmm I always though you couldn't build anything past a certain water depth, I guess in some cases it would be a tactic (though a cheap one) to slow down the flow of people to one area (though this is just the part of me who would rather hide his turrets, & lead a greedy player looking for a kill into an ambush). Though I guess it would be a bug if the turret was completely underwater, on shallow water, as in any vehicle can drive over it without losing health or ankle deep, then no.
bug bug bug. even if it were a feature it would still be an irritating and lame cheap tactic that should be removed. so ya I say it's a bug. probably has to be done per map.
Yep. Bug. Currently easiest way to fix this is to add on every map a brush in water which won't let engineers to place anything there. But I think this could be coded too so mappers don't have to remember everything.
You can build turrets under water in TF2. The commander can't build under water. Why should engineers not be able to build turrets under water?
Hard ass hell to hit a target in the water though. Nades don't bounce in water. I don't know if mortars can hit in water either.
Guess I'll haev to wait in spec until the game starts next tiem so I'm not voted comm and I can show u.
maybe things are different now but in 1.7 the turrets in water would litterally not take damage.. im not agianst the idea but thats only if they can be killed
I think it's a bug and should be fixed. If a turret's sensors can not find a target when there's a player standing in front of the turret, it shouldn't get a lock on a target when placed underwater. Because of the defraction it would think the target would be somewhere else anyway even it would be able to detect it. From a gameplay point of view i think it would just be lame.
And also how come turrets can even survive under water? Every single vehicle which you drive under water gets blown up so why turrets wouldn't? They are same kind of mechanical things which use some sort of electricity operate and when it gets shortcutted they won't work anymore. Krenzo if you are going to leave turrets as they are now, then give every vehicle ability to drive under water too. They are similar mechanical things as turrets are and they should also survive under water because turrets survive too.
would stopping the engineer tool working under water help much and/or setting buildings to do whatever it is tanks do that hurts them when underwater?
