Meh, i'm done....once again, did it lazily :p a- Commander vehicle identification, importance of the commander vehicle b- Commander HUD To identify the Command Vehicle, look for a vehicle that is unique on the battlefield. It should have no turret and look more like a truck with big wheels and a radar on top. The CV is the most important object in the game, if it is destroyed, you will lose. The objective in most command maps is to destroy the enemy Command Vehicle, and if you have a CV, in almost all cases the game will end if it is destroyed. Once you're in commander view (F2) your minimap will switch in position from the top right to the bottom left inside the commander Heads-up Display. There are five buttons along the bottom - Log Out, Units, Build, Factory and Research. Build and Research are Of vital importance when Commanding, but Units and Factory are useful tools for managing your team. In order, the Log Out button puts you back into driving mode, the Units menu allows you to select your team by Player, Vehicle, or Squad, and also allows you to select buildings. It gives the relative health of the selected unit next to the name, and the unit is displayed in the window at the bottom showing the class/type and health. The build menu allows you to build all of the buildings you'll need for a successful campaign. If you do not have enough resources the building will be greyed out in the menu and unselectable. Note: To place a building, merely select it and if the terrain is right (e.g. flat or over a resource node for a refinery) the building will highlight green instead of red and you can place it. The Factory tab will allow you to customise and build vehicles to spawn at certain factories. You can use the dropbox at the top of the menu to select which factory to build the vehicle at. A powerful feature of the Factory menu is the ability to restrict your teams ability to spawn vehicles. This is represented by a crossbox at the bottom next to "Anyone Can Build". The research tab only has two options - one to view the research tree, where you conduct research, and one to cancel the research currently in progress.
I think he merely means, we need the videos now rather than later. We can't wait for them or they may miss the steamworks release... aka, do them as you go instead of after everything.
IF we're aiming for steamworks release in the near future, then a pre-lim date would be nice. That will give us a better idea of boundaries and planning the timeline. I'm not even sure Empires is polished enough for a solid Steamworks release. You get a lot of press on a big release, and if it ends up as mixed/bad press it can really hurt the mod (see Empires v2.0 release and the recent mixed reviews of Neotokyo)
If this is needed for steamworks release, then someone please tell me, I'm not really paying much attention to this. Anyhow, I'll do the research, spellman you do the slang, Ikalx, F-menu please. Thanks so far for all your work. Do this by friday please. AFTER WE FINISH: I'll do a quick run through all the scripts and see if there's anything that needs changing (to sound better etc.). If you see any spelling mistakes anywhere point them out, or anything that doesn't make sense from a newbie point.
You guys should run these by friends that have never played emp. They would have the best perspective for this.
Critique like no tomorrow! I avoided most of the obvious abbreviations. EDIT1: duuuuuuh 6. Other a- Empires slang (I mean real slang, something that we actually use) (this is gonna require serious visuals since it's often from text chats) Here are some of the typical slang words or phrases you may hear in a Empires game. 8 mine - a grenadier placing 8 mines in one spot to try and flip or kill an enemy vehicle. Arty - short for artillery. Light - the lightest chassis of the tanks. Meds - a medium type chassis. Heavy - the heavy chassis for the tanks. BE - the Brenodi Empire NF - the Northern Faction Killspawn - suiciding to intentionally respawn somewhere. Useful if you're on the front line and need to return to your main base instead of trying to walk or drive back. Nukes - original name for the HIT Missile since it's found in the fission tech. Spawn killing - killing players as they spawn in a barracks before they can orient themselves. Paper Tank/Arty - referring to a weak or low quality equipped vehicle, mostly directly referring to tanks who only have standard armor and thus are easy to destroy with infantry. Rax - short for barracks. Ref - Refinery. Res - short for resources. Rev/Rez - resurrection, an action only available to Engineers. Turtling - focusing on defensive strategies with the goal of halting an enemies advance or holding a strategic point Wall/Walling - to surround someone with walls so that they can't escape. Often used to isolate and kill the Command Vehicle so that it can't escape.
For the purpose of this video, research times have been sped up greatly, in a standard game more time will be require to complete each branch of research. Research can be conducted after a radar has been fully constructed. Different research trees and branches contain different weapons, armors and engines. Research allows for the team to field better tanks, last longer in battles, do heavier damage to the enemy and other supportive roles. In version 2.24, there are 5 main trees of research. Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. An HIT missile, researched through the Physics tree, is a very powerful missile that does devastating damage to infantry and does a lot of heat damage to enemy vehicles with a large blast radius. The Chemistry research tree contains the Advanced Coolant Engine, commonly referred to as ACE, which has the best cooling properties out of all engines. The Biology tree has the Regenerative armor, which recovers over time as long as it isn't damaged by a biological weapon. Electrical engineering allows for Level 2 and later Level 3 turrets to be placed on the battlefield by the commander. Most of the weapons researched cannot be placed on standard vehicles available without research. In order to research more advanced chassis, the Mechanical Engineering must be opened up. In addition to having the chassis research, Mechanical Engineering tree has APD, short for Advanced Personnel Deployment, which allows for APCs being used as mobile spawn points. All research trees contain a specific engine and a specific armor. Some armors are more effective against one weapon, some against another, some cost less, some weigh less. As for engines, all of them possess different qualities such as speed, cooling properties and horsepower.
Meeehh....i'm probably not gonna get this done. Someone else can take care of it. I've got some things to do...and other things I just want to do.
F-menu In Empires mod, a menu which allows for complex tasks exists. By default, press F to bring up the menu. Navigating the menu can be difficult at first, but once familiar, it becomes a very valuable tool which will aid you and your team greatly. F-menu allows you to do various tasks, including: spotting an enemy structure, vehicle or infantry, issuing attack, movement or defend orders to your squad, request ammunition or medical attention. If you are a leader of a squad and you have enough points you can activate a squad powerup. In order to do so, press F then S, then either A or D, corresponding with the powerup that you wish to use. Spotting the target will make it visible on the map for your whole team, and issuing an attack order will make your squad have an target on the screen at all times until the target is destroyed.
Allright, here's what I'm doing right now. I'm saving all tuts are .txt files which I will store on my computer and then reupload it. I'll ask the voice actors to download the file and record themselves speaking about the different tutorials.
