I started working on emp_tutorial after DrummerX asked me to help him. It's going along pretty well so far but there are still a lot of things to do. The reason I'm posting it here is because I'm counting on intelligent suggestions and not the usual replies which end up being about a different topic. Another reason is because I'm hoping this could be the official tutorial map for Empires. I made this short txt file to keep track of things: Notes: Filtering by class is currently not possible. Sections can be restricted with invisible walls for certain classes but things cannot be triggered on player class. TODO: Not specific to any section: -- 1) Make script of all things that need to be said by eldablonde. -- Hazard Course: -- 1) Make it. -- Firing Range: -- 1) Add ability to change class. 2) Add ability to restart the firing range course. 3) *optional* Make firing range more dynamic by adding a screen with a counter. -DONE, works perfectly- -- Basic Engineering: -- 1) Script so door to eng_map_brush section opens when all objectives have been met. 2) Add lights to eng_map_brush section. -DONE- -- Brenodi Building Showroom: -- 1) Being redesigned. -- And some screens:
I've seen screenshots. Fapfapfapfapfapfapfap. Just don't make it like Smashballs where you think it's going to help you and then you still get raped online.
We're making it to show and explain key features of the game not how to play the game. The only way you would learn how to play is actually join a server and learn that way. If there is stuff that you would want to see in the map itself let us know and we'll see if we've got it already or not if it's even feasible.
That should be done with Lua. I've been trying to get Lua back into Empires lately. If you give me a list of things that you want implementable I'll write support for them.
after the next compile i'll take pics, trust me you'll shit your pants at the work that blight has put into this. Moo, what kinda things are you talking about?
nah, Blight has gone on a spree and has made everything on the fly. Gave him the basic concept on how to do everything and he's gone all out on this.
At the end of the tank driving course put some APC's that follow scripted paths and you have to shoot them for target practice. Do the same with infantry because shooting what you are supposed to shoot in game is better and more fun then just shooting squares. Edit: looks like an NS map, BTW, which is a very good thing.
Looks nice, it almost makes me forget that you made that certain deathmatch map and forced everybody to play it. Things that should be in the tutorial: Ammoz - How to get selecting a class picking a class skill building a level 3 turret maybe a short guide through the different building types (this is the armory, this is the vf, this is a barracks, etc) how to build a vehicle for dummies a presentation of both sides CVs
I was just about to say what Omneh said. Maybe an interactive part where you have all the skills on the wall, and you can find out about them if you want, but it isn't compulsary.
