My little statistic tool is still running and it's not looking that good for Empires. Can someone remember why the player count was increased from mid of June to mid of July? The data is too polluted by the fact that there are press releases and patches and news and drama that bump the player count up and down. Next patch it will skyrocket then settle back down to about 50 on average. It moves around.
Oh god not another "OH NOES EMPIRES IS DIEING WHAT WILL WE DO?!" thread. The player count on every game goes down if there are not enough updates to keep people coming back. Some more promotion of the mod is needed, and it seems to be too confusing to new players. I mean on the steam page for empires it lists it as an RTS, it would be better off listed as an FPS then described as an FPS with RTS elements.
First, update the Moddb page. Do it. Then do as CyberKiller said; It's not an RTS. (You don't see Zombie Master listed as an RTS, do you?) Do those "balance fixes" of yours which only a few in the community actually notice. (Other than plasma vs. everything else) Release on Steam.
It's called school. They all get out by mid june and start going back or getting prepared to go back at the end of july. Remember that 90% of the empires players have a life, leaving only a very small base of people without a life here to populate the servers :/
Reality sucks. (Unless you have shitloads of money, have an iPhone, brand clothes, flat-screen TVs in at least two rooms in your house, your parents have/had at least 2 cars, you have FRIENDS who CARE about you and you're able to act like an asshole toward innocent people and get away with it.) You should be happy you're not involved.
Now that all the kiddies are off to school, it's time to play Empires again! (I forget.. Does school mean they spend less time playing Empires and more time studying, or less time playing outside and more time playing Empires when they should be studying?)
I find time in which to play Empires. Usually when I'm supposed to be studying for that Philosophy final. The summer retards come and go every year. Take Insurgency Mod for example, they have around, oh i don't know, maybe 200 players? That number is probably somewhere around 150 or 100 right now. During the summer, the mod had a MASSIVE increase in players and activity. Around July/August Insurgency had around 500 players. Now its back to 150. To quote myself All that is edited.
