    What are some of the things that annoy you most about Empires?



    It has always bugged me that the commander doesn't have enough control to perform tasks at a fast pace. The research menu's are quite slow, it can be difficult to navigate the command view on certain maps and it can be difficult to select the units you want. Most RTS games have the functionality of a mass unit select. Empires does not, so:
    It has prompted me to want to change a couple of things. (Video has keyboard/mouse display so you can see the key bindings, and of course the obligatory reznov rap.)

    This is something that has always annoyed me:
    The current counter intuitive commander recycle.
    How I think it should work.

    Another thing that bugs me is the lack of voice prompts to ask for specific buildings from your commander. Anyway I have other issues with the game but I'd like to hear what bugs you the most?

    Lack of squad selection
    Locking amount of vehicle types (arty)
    A "drop refinery here command"
    Replace "Guard this unit" with "Build this structure" if it's unbuilt.

    Yes, commanding view really lacks binds, but you can fix it using custom binding (which isn't described anywhere except in forums and wiki).
    And the most annoying thing in research menu are too long animations.

    The lack of input to the commander menu is because most players use normal chat, not voip so in the midst of action it's hard to notice all these messages because of contrast with the background. We could either add voice prompts or make chat more visible for comm (or everyone).

    The groups are pretty hard to create and manage, but that are so it's still something.

    And the thing that annoys me the most is using minimap for moving over the map, the bug with camera stopping us troubling.

    I think admin abuse is one of my empires pet peeves
    Getting a full day silence for stacking on escort, proceeded with getting banned from the server for a day for " dodging the silence by changing my name ".

    No but for reals though, one of my pet peeves is that I sometime have to take a full minute to place down a rax, you know when you see your building turn green, but then cant find it again, the buildings should automaticly like click into green spots and then give you free range of motion. Like the 3d building that's red doesnt appear, only when it's green it appears but it like clicks into the green areas.

    Another really shitty thing is fucking vehicle chainguns being completely off if you have a ping higher than 0. Same with infantry shooting towards jeeps. wtf though. Having precognition shouldn't be a skill you have to own to kill people with vehicle mgs

    Oh boy, time for a novel:

    Commander Pet Peeves
    • Inability to queue up research (think Civilization-style)
    • The whole research tree not being visible on a single screen (rather than the current tech within tech style)
    • The Command GUI not following the RTS-standard layout
    • That you have to be in the CV, but not in the comm view to change squad leaders
    • That you can't only allow specific players or squads to build vehicles
    • That you can't restrict certain tech choices after you've researched them (i.e. research arty but prevent people from actually building arty)
    • That to build a vehicle from a vf from the comm view, you have to use a bunch of dropdown menus rather than selecting the vf and then clicking the 'spawn vehicle X' button like how every other RTS ever does it
    • The inability to instantly move my view to an alert (such as someone calling for a ref) by hitting a key (like the spacebar)
    • The inability for the comm to voice and/or text chat to a specific player or squad
    • That 'enemy too near' prevents you from placing structures far too often
    Player Pet Peeves
    • The lack of squad-only text/voice chat
    • That there are 5 menus (join team, select class, join squad, select comm, select spawn) rather than 1 for when you first join a server/team.
    • That it takes clicking through a bunch of dropdown menus and tabs to customize your vehicle rather than all options being on a single menu
    • That the vehicle selection menu doesn't auto-populate the most recently researched weapons/armor/engine
    • No 'request refinery placement' command that allows the comm to immediately jump to your location
    • No way to replace an incompetent/afk squad leader on a non-comm map
    • That the class abilities are not all on one menu for easy selection
    • That vehicles don't have the 'you can't steal it from me when I'm within a certain radius' circle like the CV
    • That engies can't place refs using their wages
    • That a driver moving the turret of a vehicle also changes the viewpoint of the person in the 2nd seat
    • That non-track vehicles (like the jeep, APC, CVs, etc) can't spin around in the same spot like the tracked tanks
    • That the viewpoint of the 3rd-8th position of an APC are from weird spots on the APC rather than just like the normal driver or 2nd position views
    • That you can't 3rd-person spectate your teammates when you are dead (especially annoying when its 0 tickets and you died in an area without any action)
    • That if there is no space available the squad revive fails to work or only partially revives rather than reviving players to the closest valid position
    • That revive requires you to aim your calculator at the dead player for 1-2s rather than just work on any dead player within a short radius (regardless of what your pointing at)
    • That there is no indication that a repair pad is currently not repairing you because it has recently taken damage
    • That the grenadier mortar has distracting sight lines for aiming that you can't remove rather than a ghost aiming arc
    • That emp_gren_toggleProjectileview is not the default artillery feedback
    • That arty tanks don't have independent turret movement in the horizontal direction
    • That the repair pads can be a nightmare to get on and off (especially the BE one/it would be great if both repair pads were like the one on escort)
    • That you can't decon or destroy engy dropped ammo boxes
    Map Pet Peeves
    • That all maps don't start with the at least one built ref and a minimum of 300 res for a forward barracks and ref
    • That there are wild variations in the res flowrate value of refs both within and between maps
    • That there are often little to no indications of what capturing a flag provides, especially on comm-maps (does it provide a spawn point? give res? spawn ammo/health boxes? cause ticket bleed? all of the above?)

    *Nurecoil with any weapon capable of autofire
    *Bullet pushback ala hollywood shotgun physics
    *Years of tank balance (res+scripts) changes with no regards on how they affect infanty turned dealing with tanks from hard and rewarding to nigh impossible and pointless
    *Dodging vehicles seems to be impossible now
    *Tons of maps are biased towards one side even despite getting reworks
    *Money is still a played map in anno domini 2016
    *People voting (insert big map here) on low pops and escort at 40 people.
    *Alot of commanders refuse to listen to advice or are downright quirky and will make it their mission to always remind you of it constantly.
    *Getting stuck in the sky on SoF
    *To replace the weapon on tank you have to first drag it away and then drag new one in , instead of just the latter.
    *Maps starting with no prebuilt refs (like old cyclopean)
    *Mvalley metagame is absolute garbage because noone wants to change a single value to prevent first building vf. New dam and flooding mechanics though, no problem, i got you fam.
    *Nukes detonating one another
    *Quit squad option is right next to power usage in the f menu for reasons unbeknownst
    *Script updates only shipping with big version updates for reasons even more convoluted.

    How many times have I said "Nukes benefit BE much more than NF because missiles are destroyable and therefore Nukes destroy all the missiles in the air"...


    Well 99% of my problem with the current Empires is its players, newbies or otherwise inexperienced who think they know better. Who will do nothing to help the team, the real Empires is dead.

    Adding to the list that people already posted:

    #1: E-build
    #2: Selecting squads from the commander interface via keybindings
    #3: Managing squads, including kick/ban, switch from the commander interface.
    #4: Adding to what Scardybob said about the flags not giving informations, most maps have no information about the different rates of their refineries.
    #5: No Building limit counters in the commander interface, so you don't know when you'll run out of buildings unless you're Rainman
    #6: Recycling should give points
    #7: F-menu global delay
    #8: Wages, all resources should be in the team-pool.
    #9: No research cost anymore...



    #101: Classes
    #102: Tickets
    #103: Vehicle Weight limit

    - Leaving squads via F-menu. ( So irritating...)
    - Lack of easy unit selection ( clicking on a person is hard and it shouldn't be)
    - How BE text in the chat box is purple.

    I am surprised that "LT/AFV can hurt themselves when they are shooting at enemy at close range." hasn't been brought up.

    Next patch I am lowering std CN's explosion radius to see if it helps.

    players that don't follow the server rules and then think they are above getting banned.
    players that grief and exploit and then complain about being banned.
    players who think vets should not be banned because they are vets
    players who think players should not be banned because of low population
    players that abuse admins
    admins that abuse their powers

    class defaulting to scout
    no decent tutorial map

    The problem is not that they can hurt themselves, the problem is that somehow it seems to deal DOUBLE damage when you hurt yourself. Don't reduce standard cannon explosion radius, hell no.
    We're talking 1 standard cannon shot takes out 1 plate of reactive.

    What xya said, its so fucking normal that you take damage yourself when firing at close proximity. It adds another layer of tactic, sometimes I just rush my lighttank into an afv because I know I have reactive armor and they dont so I can take the damage from hitting myself BUT ALSO they are hitting themselvs as well. And I got more overal hp so he's going to die and Im not

    Can i just add admins that dont bother doing anything despite having the power to do so? Seems actually alot more prevalent than the abusive type.
    Nukes are a stupidly often sight last couple of versions and slaughtered is about the most played map.

    if you fire too close the round bounces and blows up closer to you then the enemy.
