i like the idea of capture a flag and get res-points for it. maybe the lightning should be decreased a little bit. keep up working broccoli, the map looks good so far, and we have another gametype after the normal empires maps and escort.
looks very fun to play! If anyone has this on its server plz tell :] I made 3 pics while i was checking it out
very nice, did try to downloaded it but that site doesnt like me for some reason.. Wut i suggest in later versions, that you make the railroad abit less straight maybe add some turns into it.
Sorry to say this, but it looks incredibly plain second picture basicly is flat ground with models on it, it looks incredibly unintresting and coud seriusly need some displacement and logical placement of structures, some form of detail to make it actually seem a trainstation insted of... well, i don't know, a rather porly made model train station? Your third picture suffers from the exact same problem, it looks like somthing out of halflife1, and even then it woud be possible to make it more detailed without mutch trouble for that engine Try to aplying some form of brushwork to that structure, sure, you have a great start on the roof, but how about some suports to keep the roof up? some displacements on the floor? some texture variation? non-flat walls? some change to the track and how it goes into the building? maybe some catwallks up in the air? that spot woud be awsome for a cargo loading crane with some elevations for stacking crates for an example, and woud thereby increse that structures fun-level to fight in And why is there no snow and signs of winter if there are huge gaping holes in it? I'm sorry if i sound harsh, but that map do look like crap. it woud seem as you sadly relesed it way to early Put some work into detailing it! you have milions of possibilitys to make that into somthing that woud seem important to fight in using the source engine, but you are hardly taking advantage of it at all, why is this? Back to the drawing board! rethink your areas, what can be done better? where can i add details to make it feel alive? use the guides posted at interlopers.net, they are quite usefull for geting tips about things that you can do to imporove the detail in your levels And above all, don't give up
maybe stick some tank or dropship models onto some flatbed railroad cars so it seems like thats what we are fighting over ?
another nice detail, but that itself won't make it look good hang one of the dropship models in ropes slightly above the car, giving the impression that it's beeing loaded
Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'll be taking it all into account. The village itself is not a train station, it just happens to be on the line. The ground was flat because I assumed that over a long time falling snow would flatten out terrain. Maybe I need to do some more research if you say this isn't realistic. There are displacements to either side of the valley, it's not entirely flat. I do plan on adding more props to this area, at the moment it is too plain. On the detail side, extra brushwork is very costly in an outdoor map like this, where you're rendering pretty much everything inside the z-clip all the time. Supports are a good idea, I'll look into some more research for that. What do you mean by this? Do you mean inside the shed? Would be a possibility. There is snow build-up in the corners, maybe I need to exaggerate it more. To be honest I think you are being unfairly harsh here. I'm no n00b to mapping, and this is far from a final release. Who are you to tell me my map looks like crap? As for not taking advantage of the engine, well keeping details down isn't not taking advantage. It's not going to look like HL2 SP; in a multi-player game this would just not perform well enough for most people. I have a fairly low end system myself, and would rather have a highly playable map than one which looks a little better but is limited to an elite few. I'm sorry, but your criticism is a little too harsh for my liking, and if you really do mean these things then you could have been a little more tactfull in putting them across.
tbh it looked like a fun map to play, looked like it definitly has a fun factor to it. Id rather have a bland map then too complex and unplayable. It looks very simple, but you can enter all the buildings and it looks like it could have some nice fights in the center. Its a custom map, custom maps arent always ment to live up to the high standards, back story, athmosphere, other rules an official map has to abide(sp?) by. If that would be the case there wouldnt be much fun custom maps out there
Don't take it personally. As long as your map runs, then you're way ahead of Grizzly in mapping ability. Right Grizzly? :p
Anyway, moving on - here's some changes so far for the next version: Dimmed lighting. Slightly Increased fog distance. Added crashed Imperial dropship to the Brenodi spawn. Added volumetric light effects to the engine shed. Added more detail in and around the shed, including roof supports. Still ironing out some things before this version will be up for download, hopefully will be very soon though. Anyone have any idea what's going down with the displacement in that last shot? The lighting is all screwy (it is a full rad).
still way to flat and empty imho wind moves snow around alot, making it pile up in diffrent spots insted of becoming competly flat mostly also, concider adding some displacements around the track itself, it's the only thing in the shoots not coverd by snow
Your map has potential, already I like the idea of playing in a rail yard in the center over a single flag. Juicey. However, lets spice it up abit. What if you had some deviding the players view from one side of the map to the other? Could you then reduce the amount that had to be rendered all at once? Try adding in some containers like are in ports... if you had these two or three tall it would obstruct the view, add charicter and wouldnt be too hard to implament. Also, if this is a rail yard or even a branch line where trains stop you might want some lines that jut off. Adding military equipment, Imperial boxes to represent supplies or maybe prison crates full of NF prisoners would be great additions and would give the map a sense of purpose. I want to model a Empires locomotive, maybe some train cars too.
