Palm Bay Version: Beta 2 By: [LoDw]Keef This map is full grid, but its layout gives it a smaller feel and condensed combat area. Map layout isnt symmetrical but feels balanced enough for the few times its been playtested. I was trying to go for a sort of cartoony feel, not directly but not dirty and gritty I should say, very clean, too clean. Palms are ugly I know but there are too many palms in a small area for me to try to use the tropic vendetta ones, so I used these cheaper trees. This project was a quick project, not alot of time or dedication went into it but I feel it came out allright. Its actually been done for a while for the most part I just havnt had a chance to finish it up with the end of the school semester, but now its winter break and were good to go! Island formations in Empires have never seized to amaze me... It does look cool, but rather small as you said. And another thing that bothers me is infantry combat, this map looks pretty open and that is my concern, Tropic Vendetta for example may look great but it is one of the least fun maps to play as infantry(personally), as most of the time I will simply get gunned down by a qauzillion vehicle machineguns. And looking at hte map lay-out I am expecting the same to happen on this map. Well, I'd have to play it a few times first I guess, so I hope it will be on a server soon.
Ok is it possible for you to use scaled up rock models rather then displacment for the big stone dividers? I think it would be worth the extra time spent.
I figured out the black water problem, if you launch empires with -dx level 80 the water is still black but if you launch it with -dx level 90 its blue, so those who can't launch with -dx level 90 will still see black water BTW it's on VIPER
Ahh, did Cas ever climb his hill? Anyways, would be cool if we could have some DX8 water. The NF (and I'm assuming BE comm too) comm can climb hills. There needs to be a tad more open space on the beaches for tank warfare. Possibly move the NFs northwestern refs closer to mainland. BE has land for building a base on their extended-area, NF does not.
beta 2 and I tested it with dx level 8 and 9 and on 8 the water was still black on 9 it was fine all blue, I need to use 8 tho I get lag with 9, which explains why with beta 1 some saw the water black and some didn't
Good map, will play again, but: 1. central part is too small: You drive out of your base and almost stumble into the enemy one. 2. needs blimpzzzz! needs AA-guns! 3. Maybe add rocks to the start bases where they face the water, so the CV isn't in danger to be pushed in / griefed / other noob com accidents. 4. NF has it slightly easier to cap and hold 5 refs, because the central ref on their side is easier to defend.
Map is looking great! One idea for the boat: Let it move from one side to another. Could be the first small step towards naval battles. :D
I changed some properties in these lazors to deal with people running lower level graphics settings. I dont geet it! It should be fixed... This map was sorta leaning twords a smaller gameplay area, condense the combat. I dono bout blimpz, was thinking maybe a boat to circle the island though(in the 3d skybox) meh it'll be a good learning experience, noob comm falls in water, he r noob. comms should be vets not noobs IMO anyway. I disagree, the 'hill' island is the coin flip island and other than that I'd really say BE has the advantage, they basically have 2 free refs on highground and 1 on the close beach where as NF only has 1 free high ground ref and the other 2 are on low ground and the beach. The island refs are an up in the air state anyway.
I played the map various times now, and the lag is horrible - it's worse then tropic vendetta. This simply makes the map unplayable with more then 10 players per team.
Get a new computer. Seriously, mines 2.5(ish) years old now and it chews it up with 70fps. Love the map though, it's a bit small sure, but personally I like that.... It's nice to have a "pretty" map aswell for a change~ =] But I think NF might have an advantage, not sure how but as with flasche I have yet to see BE win.....
