    -.-"

Most maps are far too small, some maps have so much open space that you get nooby scout rushes.

Some maps have almost no space at all.

Maps should be bigger, far bigger, it can be fixed by decreasing the size of the models.

I make maps for Empires for me and my friends. But I have no problem with complex maps. Complex maps displays the skill of the creator.

People have far more joy when playing a complex map with a huge city, a gigantic tunnel network and enough space to fit in a 1000 people.

If people see a map it should be like: ... Wow...

Something I've only seen with a few maps.

Most maps are plain, symetrical and lack of inspiration, complexity and variation.

I agree the main base should be flat. But after you've done that you should be able to do whatever you want.

Hills, deserts, forests, mountains, cities, tunnels, rivers and canyons. I am still hoping that one day a map like that will exist on Empires.

Take emp_slaughtered. That map could be improved without the gameplay being lost. Adding trees, and different types of terain.

We ARE working on even larger maps, but the amount of support needed in other departments makes it too difficult to get in a working state any time soon.

Your post, as the post bevor, just showes that you have
seriously no clue how you have to map for empires.

Can't you do it yourself? I'm not your skivvy and they are not difficult to make.

I've sent you enough of them that you should know how they work by now.

Open space doesn't essentially mean boring, plain, flat grass.

Make it some fun, add bushes, debris, ruins, hills. Still it's open space, but it's not plain space.

I should have added main base build space.

Said by who? I am hearing the exact opposite, maps will be bigger and model scale will be displayed smaller.

Everyone can spam brushes. I am talking about Cities, Underground networks, Forests, ect. Every map should be touched and created like it is a peace of art.

That doesn't mean that people cannot get lost. People can even get lost on miniature maps. You can use the landscape to your advantage as a decent mapper and force people to follow the road you've pointed out. But that doesn't mean that if you are a mapper that you cannot decorate your map. Decoration, complexity, art, diversity and variation give the player a sensation. It makes him or her want to explore the map. Maps should contain realism and beauty.

    A non-symetrical map doesn't essentialy mean a non-balanced map.

I agree, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the map should be a boring, endless grass landscape fading away into the eternity.

Bases take up allot of space, in my own maps I try placing as much of the content underground. Currently I am working at a horro type city undeground wich has been abondened. The only way to get to the enemy base is using the massive underground city. Wich scares the crap out of you, I am currently working on a way to make it possible for the lights to be destroyed - wich forces you to use your flashlight.

It's not needed at all. But it will improve the emotional sensation and experience of those who play the map.

Satanchild, this thread, is not the place for this discussion
Open a new thread something like "Making fun and pretty maps" or something, just take it out of here...
Maybe a mod can split the topic?

Because it's not idiot, we haven't put it in fully yet, he'd be stupid to make it a scaling map because there are no tools to help him do that and he'd have to redo his map entirely. There's no point on putting a good map on hold to wait for a feature that's roughly 6 months off.

    Think before you post.

Scaling btw means maps with even less stuff in them cause theres a brushlimit.
And if you use props you will crash the game cause theres a limit how many
props the engine can display at the same time.

2.2 will not have scaling as far as I know, 2.2 is just the OB engine with some bugfixes. Although the 'just' likely does not do it justice.

    I need the OB engine.

Why don't you get tester status then?

Seriously, 2.2 needs a flagship map, as I have said.

If someone wants to give me it so I can get the map ready sooner then they can, but I'm not going to ask for it because it makes little difference to me whether or not it gets released now or next year.

Oh and if you did I wouldn't work faster to get it out with 2.2, it'd just give me a headstart. It probably needs a bit of balancing doing as well as any bugs which arise when you try to run empires with it.

You don't have to 'try' as I said it makes no real difference to me.

i put some empires maps of mine in the fridge until 2.2 and i suggest everyone currently mapping for 2.2 to do the same, better take your time and not have to redo parts or something
