After being arrested for copying emp_duststorm to make my own version of it (not mentioning flasche was helping me so they wouldn't go after him as well), AND after escaping from the police car when they were driving me to prison, i felt like behaving even more like a fuckhead. When i get home - after i changed all roadsigns so the cops couldn't find my place anymore - i decided to copy emp_canyon as well. And so i did ... or maybe it's better to say "and so i will", once i've made all the textures that i need and after emp_ward_rc2 is finished. As i'm bad with naming stuff and that all my maps are 4 letters long, i couldn't use emp_canyon2, so i named it emp_flat ... because of all the huge cliffs everywhere. It just makes sense. So far i've only done a few things: 1) create 6 custom grass textures and 1 custom rock texture 2) test the rock texture on some quickly made cliffs to see how it might look 3) get a pc virus while trying to get a pirated version of Crazy Bump, which is no longer free 4) get rid of the fucking virus So all i can show are the textures with NO FUCKING BUMP MAPS and the testing area. Seriously that are the best looking mountains/cliffs in empires. How many displacements are in that screenshot?!?!
Well that's the idea Like that screenshot, but hopefully better Mayama= there are 10 displacements to go up (5 vertical + 5 horizontal), and 12 next to eachother (of which you can see 5 i think). So 120 if which 50 are visible.
Yeah I just thought about the displacement number because my new map (fullgrid) is on the displacement limit so I dunno if a fullscale map is possible with those cliffs.
300 It's more, but for some reason it doesn't show more than 300 fps. There's not much in the testing area. Quite a few displacements (which have a surprisingly low impact on fps), 2 vehicles and 2 buildings. At this stage not one empires map will show less than 300 fps probably. The question is how much will it be when more cliffs/bridges/trees/buildings/vehicles/bullets/players are present. If ANYONE knows free software as good as crazy bump, with NO VIRUS in it, please do tell. Also very important, what do you think about the grass textures ?
I looked at the screenshot... And I am about to get a nerdgasm... Grass looks great, cliffs are superb. I would like a map with grass and clifs all over the place, like caves, small towns(with flags) cliffs, bridges between cliff, ect. A multi-layer map. A river would be awesome too...

Cool cliffs, I've never been any good at cliffs, the displacement tools just don't do what I want them to.
Well my scanner hasn't worked for years and i'm too lazy to draw it in paint, but like canyon it will be sort of a circle, with a few changes. ok a friend has scanned it for me http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/234836/emp_canyon2_layout.gif This will problably change though, also bridges and plateaus will be added, together with some other buildings that i haven't even thought about. Edit: There's a good chance i will not put a resource spot in the starting bases. As i don't like the ineffectiveness of infantry against vehicles, my only solution is to make sure there's not enough money to have more than 4 or 5 vehicles on the field (4 lt's are still enough to kill dozens of grenadiers, heavy tanks and bases). Certainly on rather open maps the only way to stop superfast lt's as infantry (or even as tanks) is to block every inch of the terrain with walls. If in a future update in some way lt's become less awesome, heavies will probably once again be the uber weapons as they can only be taken out by other vehicles (often you need 8 rockets to get rid of the armor on only 1 side, so needless to say a medium sized group of grenadiers can never destroy a heavy when it has a skilled driver, as he will just turn his tank and/or retreat to repair himself). So yes there won't be much money in this map probably. I know this causes problems like having to walk a lot but i'm trying to find a solution for that.

Haha indeed, what Helve said. Luckily for me Blah is a lot different. I just thought "Let's use a circle but have something mess it up at some places". And that's pretty much all thought that ever got into it. I've put the layout in hammer as reference. I'll start working on it tomorrow untill flasche gives me his work for emp_ward_rc2 so i can finish that map.
