I've put my airfight map on trickster's map testing server and I've been getting some pretty decent reviews of the map. But of course, it's not finished yet. I still need to make 'hitboxes' for the aircraft to make them destructible. But I'm not sure how to make the aircraft be destroyed and then be appear again. Can one of you fine mappers help me out here? If you played the map, and have any suggestions on map design or new mechanics, feel free to share them.
i have no clue how you check if it died, but you can store entities in point_templates for respawning (use it for flag-triggered refinaries for example) but im sure blizzerd will get here soon, he seems quite good with source entities
He wouldn't be making a regular map anyway, so it's better some map than no map. Except in the case of rainbowroad.
Use a point_template or something along those lines? If you've ever played the farmville map for Obsidian Conflict, the maker of it uses a lot of those.
Each aircraft has multiple brushes and entities parented to a single physbox. When I make a point_template, will I have to include every single one of those brushes and entities? Or will hammer include them already since they're in the same family?

You shouldn't use another person's thread to stur up shit for your own cause. Empty's comment as also against the whole idea of a gimmic map. Empires needs more serious maps that can be played on a rotation rather than lul maps is a nicer way to word his post.
No, no it isn't. Shitty terrible maps actually make the mod worse, because you go and put them on the damn epic server. If you need to rely on silly gimmick maps then obviously there is something fundamentally wrong with the actual game. There are plenty of games which do the concepts in the gimmick maps better, so making them for empires is immediately a futile and wasteful endeavour.
If we made rainbowroad into a small airfield on top of a very narrow mesa or a ship in the middle of the ocean, but with essentially the same gameplay, is it still a gimmick map?
