Good ideas, give me moar suggestions problems with these: a jungle is very difficult, and rock textures ... well they're usually not good for large areas Find me pro to make me lots of quality textures and i'll do it But we'll see.
never textured anything in my life, or created textures for that matter. I'll look stuff up on wiki, but in the mean time, pray a pro comes along XD
heres a sample of the type of ground I was thinking of. http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/9199/dscf1170tg3.th.jpg Not really sure how to go about making a skin, but thats a picture of a garden after some tilling then some rain. It's pretty grey and bleak like I was thinking of, giving the impression of somewhat recently abandoned disturbed earth. http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/118/dscf1154gg7.th.jpg This second one is ground that has been trampled often by my dogs. The grass is obviously still trying to grow, but mostly it's dead disturbed earth on the surface, but very compact and solid compared to the one above. Do these samples help at all with creating textures and is there any way i can use them to make textures for you? Anyhow, Just if you wanted something to at least get you going, that's what I was thinking of.
If either are going to be textures, they need to tile in a way where you just cant tell that its tiling.
Jungle textures = current textures, darkened + random bright leafs I'll see if I can mix something up tomorrow
Only a little helpfull. Like killx said it's not so hard to find A sample, but it's hard to find one that can be used on large terrains while still looking good. Bad would be like this: http://www.stormthecastle.com/video-game-design/images/crackedbigb4rotation.jpg It's suprisingly hard to find an image that can be repeated a hundred times in each direction without looking bad. And i have no skills with photoshop or a similar program to adjust the image itself (without making it worse). Also thanks beerdude should you manage to put something together. I'm still leaning towards emp_bushed If i'm not using that name, someone else has to do it. It' so awesome :D
Wait... I found some free jungle textures and props: http://faq.dune2k.com/cs_jungle.html Maybe those will do?
Emp_Territory Simply becuase you'll be making different areas your own little mini-bases in those areas giving the sense of territory (not to sure how big the map is for that but still the idea) and yeah i'm still waiting on a darker map and i like the jungle idea, hasn't been done yet great layout and keep that img for the res file, looks nice
I have one huge problem. I've grown tired of vertical cliffs like in canyon, isle and crossroads, so my map has steep hills instead of complete vertical cliffs. The problem is that fission jeeps can get on all of them. If the driver picks up a lot of speed before driving towards the hill, he can get on top of even the highest, steepest one and use that location to shoot down at all the areas around that hill. I really don't want to change the hills to cliffs, but i can't think of anything practical that looks normal in the map and would stop the jeeps (and other vehicles on lower hills) from accessing parts they shouldn't be able to reach. I've tried vehicleclip brushes. They work off course, but it's not nice to see a jeep hit air.
Haha, seriously forget about it for a while. I'll keep working on it, and i'll post something here from time to time (mainly questions), but i've just decided what i want to do with the map (more or less). If it works it will be one really good looking map with decent gameplay, but it will require a lot of my time. Knowing i'm at my last year at college, and that tests and finals will start in 11 days and will go on for 8 weeks, i might not have that much time. After i've graduated (read if) i'll be driving around a lot looking for a good job. Also summer is coming closer, which will drastically decrease my pc time (thank god). But this week will be rainy which pretty much forces me to stay in my room, and i'm testing some ideas i had that, if succesful, might result in a screenshot or two. But don't wait for the release ... yet
