Hi, I've been working on replacing the repair station with a repair crane that repairs in a bigger radius (approx the radius of a full base).

The big problem right now I'm having is that I don't have any good concept to work from, as I'm not that good of a modeler I could really use some concept and I was hoping some of you could help with finding or making good concept art for both the BE and NF crane.

As it it based on the crane in c&c this is the only good concept I've been using so far:

Also, does anyone have Zenarion in their steam friends, I've been trying to contact him for a while now.

    Thanks.

edit: And for anyone wondering if I've given up on the AFV replacement, I haven't, I've re initiated my poly crunch mechanisms.

Well what kind of look are you searching for, mechanical arm or a crane like in the real world.

The only thing that matters is that it doesn't become a lumpy structure in your base, if it has a crane then it shouldn't go too far outside of the base model radius (top down view).

The first thing I figured was that it should be a crane like used for creating sky crapers but there are obvious reasons why this isn't possible within Empires (bounding box).

Other than that I haven't really thought about the look and feel of the thing, it should be around the size of the current repair station or slightly smaller and should look like it is able to somehow repair vehicles and buildings, and if it's possible make it look like it can do it on a small distance.

make it appear to have a small garage containing an autonomous vehicle with one of these on its back

like, just for looks of-course, the thing wont really drive out and stuff but it would explain how it is supposed to repair stuff

for NF basically just make it a big tool shed with heavy machinery and possibly a lifting truck like vehicle in its garage

i once made my own in lego, it used 6 engines and was considerably fast and powerfull enough to lift a marble block of a kilo

then one of the engines broke (while lifting said marble block), and i didnt have enough of them + too old to buy new ones

I'll need spawwn to help me with getting the wheel rig to work correctly (unlike the hello kitty tank doing a wheelie), he's busy with 2.25 and this is a lot easier to achieve.

With a small base and no collisions with the ground on the top part it wouldn't really be a problem, apart from looking like shit if it clips through. :p

I think it would be suitable for the NF crane to bear some resemblance of those old steam cranes, like this one:

Or just search for 'steam crane' and you get a whole bunch of stuff.

Make the BE one really tall and the NF one short.

Here I made a map with a kinda related concept(in game it would probably rotate using a logic_timer).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E25h08Jq6A0
In the video you shall see:4 buttons on a console.
one button rotates the whole machine, another rotates the end point up then down, the third rotates the pointy part(?) and the final turns on the heat thing, iunno, for melting stuff and crap iunno. Yes there is no lighting, but who cares.

*No displacements were carved in the making of this video*

Its kinda my idea on how it looks, how it moves, etc.

note:this is not it's final size

if anything, i would not let it move

if you wanted to know how it moves to get an idea of how it should look for you
