On commandandconquer.com, EALA's "2POC" conducted an interview with Renegade X Founder, [NE]Fobby[GEN]. The interview contains a wealth of information concerning Renegade X and the team behind it. Check out the full interview here! http://portal.commandandconquer.com/portal...0006017780aRCRD
Doesn't EA publish UT3? I mean they do stand to gain by it, renegade is an old game which didn't do very well I don't think, so they don't stand to lose much by it, but they do stand to gain more UT sales and extra publicity. Seems logical that they'd express an interest, although it is unusual for EA to take an interest in mod teams, I've never heard of it happening before.
Developer: Epic Games Publisher: Midway Games, Valve Corporation (Steam) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_3 EA is interested in Renegade-X because C&C Renegade used to be Westwood's production and R-X is "sequel" for it. When Westwood went bankcrupt or at least out of business, EA bought Westwood and all its rights. Thus now EA is making C&C series such as Red Alert 3 and C&C 4 and thus the C&C Renegade also belongs to them. So... Now that C&C Renegade belongs to EA the R-X mod team had to ask at EA to make sure they are allowed to continue working on their mod and EA said: Yay go ahead. And that way EA get to know about this mod. Now EA most likely wishes that people would get interested in this mod and they could get enough hype around it with their own advertising and have enough big target audience for which they could make Renegade 2. Or just buy the mod and sell it as their own... Or something... That's why I said I have very bad feeling about this... It starts to feel like EA is going to buy that mod some day and then just turn it into trash like everything else it touches.
Hmm, well there is indeed that possibility, if nothing else this can serve as research, for example if EA did want to make renegade 2 they could see how this goes and what mistakes are made and then fix them for renegade 2, or as you said this could just get people interested in the franchise again.
Noes Ea ruined C&C series i liked tiberian sun alot and now they are gonna screw renegeade? NOOO STOP THEM WESTWOOD WAKe UP AND TelL THEM TO STFU!
1. Westwood doesn't exist. 2. I don't actually know what EA is going to do, I am not psychic. 3. You ignored most of the content of my post.
westwood is dead, half of westwood as i knew it is ether employed somewhere else or on retirement all recent CnC games are fake imo (some of them good games, but not "real CnC " quality)
Well I played generals, and then recently I've been playing CnC 95. And let me tell you, one of them is worthy of the title CnC Gold. It's surprising how well CnC is balanced, it's not perfect but it's got cool matchups. Rockets beat Tanks, Rifleman beats Rockets, APC Beats Rifleman, Tank/Rockets beats APC. It's an awesome cycle and it's great fun in single player.
Considering my experience of 'real cnc quality' I find it extremely difficult to imagine what could possibly not constitute a 'real cnc' game. Red alert is the most abysmal game I have ever played, red alert 2 was good when I didn't actually know any better, tiberian sun looks lovely but plays like ass, cnc renegade is fun in singleplayer but does not in any way resemble a CnC game apart from the backstory. Generals on the other hand is quite fun, CnC 3 is a superb sequel to tiberian sun because it looks even better and plays even worse, Red Alert 3 is CnC 3 without the visual appeal, so more or less a very accurate sequel to red alert 1.
Supposedly awesome UT3 mod + EA Games = Abysmally bad game. [/EA games hater] No, really. EA games used to make some pretty good games (reminds me of Midway in the '90s), but now they just make crap. The NFS series has gone down the drain since sometime between NFS: Porsche Unleashed and NFS: ProStreet.
How does EA interviewing them affect the game in ANY way whatsoever? Am I the only person left on earth with half a functioning brain cell?
I meant that EA makes crappy games these days, and I think that they're going to make the mod developers filthy rich in exchange for rights to the mod. Or at least that's what everyone else's comments suggest.
Yeah because I told you. ;P And EA isn't related to Renegade or UT3 atm in any way. They just advertise the mod because they think that they kind of own the renegade now when they bought Westwood Studios. Even Renegade is still made by Westwood and not EA. But whatever...
