I was playing today and I tought to my self that it would be very useful if the Commander and possibly the squad leaders to write/draw on the map. Like in Guild Wars you can draw out the path you need to take or show the path to a certain location. Discuss.

Great, an easier way to incorporate profanity and penis drawings in to videogames :D Maybe if you could only make straight lines I guess, but wouldn't it get pretty cluttered? OH yeahhhhhhhhh doesn't make a line on the minimap when the comm gives you orders too?

Yea of course some immature bastards would draw a penis but thats why the commander and/or squad leaders should be able to draw. Chances are its going to be used more than abused.

And ping it too. Give the Scout a reason to get Senses and stick with a squad.
But you will always have immatureity in players, what's stopping them from just spamming "PENIS!" the entire time in the chat window other than an admin that's never there?

I would think that a minimap ping (a la Warcraft 3) would be just as useful. I actually find myself missing it in Empires and other RTS's.

And if anybody can draw a penis with minimap pings, they deserve a medal.

    maybe not lines, but arrows?

you click on 2 locations on the map, between forms an arrow pointing at the last click?

dragging the last click before releasing coud make it curve

That sounds like a great idea, can it be done?

it has been done before, but can be rather tricky to make

    simple

    3: ways,
1: manually = putting "quote" at the start and "/quote" at the end (replacing " with [ and ]
2: half automaticly = pressing the text baloon in the post menu above your not-yet-posted-message, then placing the text you need to quote in between
3: automaticly = pressing the "quote" button next to the post you want to quote (below on the right corner of every post)

    Drawing things whould be stupid.

But arrows in real tactic style whould be awsome, a la Sudden Strike :)

I have to say I'd also to see a way for COMs to better give orders, faster and more efficiently and this could all but help.

    I've seen it done. :p
I also don't think it's that big of an issue. Freedraw is the best of the suggested options as yet, because it lets people draw complicated routes, or symbols and such.

    maybe only scout (yellow)
    and commander (green) can draw

scout shoud use it too, so he can help show how the enemy is manuvering and all

Would this be like Gestures in Opera/Firefox? I think that drawing would be a really useful addition

(When I say gestures, i don't mean that the pictures necessarily have to do something, i just meant drawing onscreen)

Everyone should be able to draw, but color coding isn't a bad idea. Colors for comm, SLs, scouts, and general infantry. Of course, the colors override eachother in that order.

Drawing on map for Commanders = Great Idea. Drawing on map for everyone else = No Thanks.

Perhaps you could have a clientside cvar that allowed you to disable the drawing, much like voice at the moment.

This feature worked rather well in PlanetSide and it was restricted to Commanders (based on their level too). I just don't want to have to continuously "mute" n00b doodlings just to be able to see what the Commander drew.
