I often can't see the models of other players anymore, just their weapons. I know others had that issue as well. Rejoining server dependably fixes that. Sometimes that player changing class or respawning or getting revived fixes it, but not dependably. I'm using no custom stuff. Last time it happened was on vipers, I think it also happened on EPIC, not sure though.
It's a source bug I think, I've had it happen in CS:S a few times, and I've heard of people getting in TF2, though it might not happen since those 2 games got ported to a newer version of source. Either way, no-one knows why, no-one knows how to fix it.
This is a very common bug in battlegrounds 2, the remedy is to open dev console, type "record 1" then "stop" and it will reload all of the models.
The only fix I can think of is a model cache check on a few models once every few minutes. Not sure how much pain that would be to code and how much stress it would cause in game and that only works if it is the model that gets corrupted or removed somehow.
Band-aid solution: Make weapon models player entity-sized boxes for easy spotting. No longer will you need to worry about player models. Until weapon models break.
Fix: Type "retry" in console if models dissapear. And yes it happens in all HL2 games, even TF2. Like Mayama said it happens when yoz minimize the game via AltTab. For some reason hl2.exe isn't able to stay stable while minimized yet other games work fine minimized.
The only slight downside when running -windowed -noborder is that you can't change the brightness ingame anymore.
So you can see people better. I must admit I've wanted to be able to touch up the brightness, and it's especially noticeable on non-peasant tier monitors with a high contrast ratio.
mine is too high for some maps, bush looks like the textures are glowing. I don't know, what would be the proper way to adjust brightness in window mode?
graphic card controll center thingy maybe? usually you have brightness, saturation and thelike settings for 3d accelerated applications ...
this. does anybody have a good list of all those bloom and hdr scaling commands? @flasche: Nvidia only lets you change gamma and color for desktop (not for every 3d application) and I got to leave it at "applications control color settings themselves", outherwise my second monitor (old 17" Philips) bugs out.
