Ive been using the modified BSP compiler mentioned in this post: http://forums.empiresmod.com/showpost.php?p=83764&postcount=46 but it seems to cause a lot of lighting errors on my displacements. In dark areas, some light will bleed through in circles, so there are lots of big spots of light on my displacements that look ugly. Ive tried chopping up these displacements and making the lightmap scale bigger, but it doesnt seem to help much. My map file size is now almost 100megs because ive used so many displacements. Does anyone else use this compiler, and does anyone know how to get rid of the ugly light spots?
Er, wouldn't bounce 0 turn off light bouncing and therefore cause all the lighting to suck? Or does it just remove the cap on bounces?
HAHAHAH, yeah set it to 1, ROFLMAO o man you'd get so many errors and crap in your map if you set it to 0
I just did as it happens because I just got the same error. We'll see what it does. Hmm, what it does is replace the spots with pure black areas.
thanks for your help, buut I used this: -LargeDispSampleRadius: This can be used if there are splotches of bounced light on terrain. The compile will take longer, but it will gather light across a wider area. From the valve wiki. It seems to have done the trick!
It doesn't always work as well though, at least not on all my maps. I've had a few in which it even made things worse.
