When planes are damaged how about it is made so they are harder to control so it doesn't just mean perfectly flying planes until death. This means that if there is severe damage to the plane there is the slightest chance that they may make it back to base or have a successful crash landing (with survivors) although this should be made difficult to achieve by the lack of control This could be done simply by making the planes engines more irratic or simply by making them want to spin out of controls or at different levels depending on how much and in what places the plane is hit. :D Well guys hope you like the idea lol
yeah , its a good idea , and allready vehicles suffer simaler consequences from severe damage , usally just makes it very diffucult to get any momentom.
I'm simulating each control surface of the airplane. Therefore, damage to a specific control surface will reduce its operatability and make the plane fly less than perfectly.
Awesome, Krenzo. :D I really think aircraft is going to be where Empires distinguishes itself from other FPS/RTSes. I was a bit afraid that Iron Grip would overshadow Empires (in the same way that The Specialists edged out Action Half-Life), but now I think that with all the work you're putting into aircraft, it'll offer a unique enough experience to keep the mod alive.
Will fire or at least a scorch mark appear on the damaged wing so you can tell it's damaged? If your instruments are telling you your wings got blown off an you've got a hydraulic leak, but the wing is shining like it's brand new just outside the cockpit and the flaps look to be fine, that would just be plain confusing.
Possiblly have different models for each module on the plane and have 2 or 3 damage states for each section. Or just a different texture with alpha mapped holes.
Would this set a precedent? Currently there is no performance drop when infantry or tanks are hit, they work perfectly until they are dead. If an engi gets his legs shot off, he's still able to walk to the armoury, same with a tank taking a bunch of shells and rolling away as if everything is fine. IMO, this keeps the games fun, if airplanes take noticable damage, there might be continuity problems. Does this make sense? I don't have a problem with what you are proposing, I just say this because this is a big change to the game
That is true... that would be the first object in game to not only show dmg but, have its performance degraded by it too.
Haven't you ever noticed that when you're taking damage to the hull or have absorbant armor that your tank tends to slow down and stall if you're taking lots of damage? Unless you have bio diesel, this can become a problem in the middle of a tank fight. Plain armor just makes it worse; so it's another reason why to hate paper tanks!
Reay? Never noticed. I am fairly good at keeping my tanks alive. lol. When I loose one, its to a damn mine or practacly an instant death due to 2 or more tanks on me.
