    Hello all,
I used to be able to play empires but it would crash after hour + of gameplay.
    Temperature monitoring shows:

    30 motheboard
    60 peak gpu
    51 avg gpu
    42 peak cpu
    38 avg cpu
    30 - 40 hdds

    all temperatures in Celsius.
i have no new parts or old parts taken out, the event log doesnt show any errors or read errors.

I am able to play Fallout3 at high settings 1280x1024 resolution for as long as i want.

    WOW
    Burnout paradise
    Supreme Commander
    BF 2
all run good without any crahes.

    here are my crash dumps

None of these crashdumps seem to be originating from empires code. Are your drivers up to date and windows patches up to date?

also, what windows version are you using anyway?

windows xp sp3, updated to august autopatcher.

the dumps should be in the %username%/source sdk base 2007 folder, right ?

i am able to play tf2 and hl2, yesterday i was able to get into the game and it would crash about 10 seconds in the game after picking class.
now the game crashes right before joining server, so the loading bar completes and bam - desktop.#

    Hey all,

    Empires still wont work :(

i have reset default video settings,
    installed the 190.62 nvidia drivers,
used suggested super low cfg found on this forum,
    i have tried -setdxlevel 70 90 80 95

i have tried reinstalling empires from several installers

    30/08/2009 23:03 846,593,704 empires2_23_full_client.exe
    30/08/2009 21:51 880,937,052 Empires_2.24b_client_full.exe
    30/08/2009 21:09 120,791,689 Empires_2.24b_client_patch.exe
    24/05/2009 03:06 5,333,391 Empires_2.24d_Client_hotfix.exe

i have deleted steam (but not cached game source files)
    still no joy.

the game crashes either just before entering a server, or just before spawning if i create my own server.

Wow, basically, you have the same pc as I do. Only thing different is some of the installed programs like avast and whatnot that sometimes mess with steam stuff but since other source games work... Have you tried running the game without sound?

i have disabled the sound, this allows me to play on a locally created game.
    joining a server still crashes.

Assuming it really is a sound related problem:

Maybe you need realtek/foxconn drivers for that onboard soundcard/motherboard.

I think the sounds in empires aren't serverside so if everything fails and you are dead-set on it you could try editing the sound scripts to see if you can isolate what crashes you. Aside for the soundscapes on some maps I don't recall people having had problems with something yet, though.

i have tried latest realtek drivers and stock foxconn drivers, still crashes at server join and some time after creating own game.

BTW while joining game i get 300fps (loading screen) and after creating my own game in game i only get 22 fps max.

i usually get about 100 fps while choosing class not 22 fps.

I have tried disabling the sound in device manager, it didnt help.

i able to play flawlessly, counter strike source, dod source, hl2, hl2 deathmatch, tf2.

Well I'm out of ideas, the only thing I can suggest is joining #empiresmod irc on gamesurge. There is always someone there and occasionally one can find help there.

try running it in windowed with a forced res.

    An example:

    -windowed -noborder -w 1920 -h 1200
