Right, I feel a bit stupid about posting this here... I've been trying to get the console show up for few days now, but wont help. I click right on Empires, go to properties, set launch options and type "-console" (without the double dots of course). This usually brings up the console in Steam games/mods, but apparently not for Empires. Am I doing something wrong here, or is there some trick for it?
My suggestion is to rightclick on Empires in your Steam games list and create a desktop shortcut. Open said shortcuts properties and add -console behind destination. should look something like: D:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 320 -game "d:\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\empires" -console If the console still doesn't show up make sure you've checked it ingame, too (somewhere under options, auto switch weapons should be at the same place, too lazy to look it up ) Works fine since Quake (maybe earlier? anybody? :p)
... Or you can go to the advanced keyboard options and check the "Enable developer console (~)" thingy?
Has never worked for me, ever. I don't understand why though, basicly the console has to show up whenever the button is pressed which the console is bound to, even if it's not activated. Doesn't appear to work though, it's a permanent window in the menu that's either there from start, or not. For me at least.
Sadly that only works with english keyboards. It never worked for me. Funny thing is that Source is the only engine that has this problem. The damn console works in all other games from that neat little §/½ button on the left side of 1, I think it's just too much to ask that Valve would make it work in Source too... But -console gives me the window on menu on most mods(in some the damn thing just refuses to appear) and I can access it by ESCing back to the menu.
Source reads your computer's keyboard settings, the only problem is signs that require SHIFT or ALT to be pressed won't work like in the English keyboard version, so ~ won't work either. Unless you tell Source your keyboard is Qwerty, and it actually is, you won't get it to work. In Goldource games, the ² key works for opening the console.
ehmm I have a qwerty keyboard but when my language settings are set to Dutch, the console just wont stay open (when another button is pressed it goes poof)... 2 things you can do about this: 1. bind it to another key (like F12) manually (config files) or 2. set the language settings in Windows to US or something
its an option of console, I dont remember how to fix it, it was something with ctrl e or something while having the console open.
I've tried that, doesn't work. edit: Aww shit, I changed keyboard in Source to English(US) and now the whole fucking console stopped working.
