This is a video I made yesterday promoting Empires, tell me what you think?
Constructive-Critiscism and if I make another video I can improve what aspects of the game need to be shown.
    Here is the video:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7309277618975490448

I'd like as much response as possible please!

And yes, my name is "Tarantio" but it bears no relevenace to "Tarantino" like someone though, it's just a name I use for games but I do plan to go into a Media or Journalism line of work.

    Feedback Please....

    nice :D

    couldve used some music

Most of it was really cool, but some shots seemed a bit short and meaningless.

Also you could ve rotated your view in commandmode, looked very static like this :<

keep up the good work tho, very nice and refreshing to watch empires like that :)

    Thanks :)
Carrigage was going to make the music but I got too excited and prematurely posted the video :P

When I make another I'm likely to include music.

    Keep bringing the feedback please..

Nice. I like this, the way you present the different features of the game.

    Add non-premature music :D

Seriously, I'd consider creating another version of this with a unobtrusive but good soundtrack in the background. Something instrumental, a march maybe?

What I really liked was as Major Tom said your presentation of the different aspects of the game. Some action was a bit short (for example you showed the mortar once but faded out before the shell could land, that would have completed the showing and people would have a more complete picture of what was happening after you fired the mortar).

In the end, use only the www.empiresmod.com url. The forums can be reached from there and I nearly missed the empiresmod one because the empires.cw-hosting is so much longer - but also so much worse to memorise.
Modname: empires -> url: empiresmod.com is much easier.

I liked it, but it really needs background sound.

i think its the best one yet at showing all the aspects of the game. only thing i can think of to make it better would be showing some more weapon costomization(saw you change armor and engine, but not guns), maybey show some different types of vihicles, all i saw was jeep and apc. thats about it...great job.

Your vehicle and Commander HUD covers up alot of your screen.

i liked it alot, keep it up.

only gripes i had, all very minor, were A)increase your rez so it shows all the vehicle customization and com HUDs B) did you have to use the cheater gun so much (you know which one im talkin about)? and C) now everyone is going to start mining raxes.

A lot of it seems short and meaningless... You need longer scenes. I want to see what happens, like that one 'charge' in there; people just run forwards and do nothing. Let us see some actual action after they've marched to the frontline. End the clip when the 'cameraman' dies. Fight seriously, rather than running and shooting here and there, probably not hitting anything.

When you show commander footage, you should show an entire operation. Like, a 1-2 minute scene where you order people to take out some APC or something, and keep filming untill the mission is accomplished or failed.

I also have an idea for a scene you could do; be an engineer and build a turret, and after it's built, show it shooting at people while you're watching behind a corner.

About that resolution; 1024x768 should be good. You should also make the actual video of much better quality, since most of the time it was hard to spot the moving masses of randomly colored pixels that supposedly represented NF soldiers.

i think the short scenes are good, the whole point of seeing the group running was to show some sort of teamwork (i think). keeping them short keeps people that have no idea what the games about interested. with long scenes people get bored.

Music would've been nice (preferably not lame heavy metal stuff) but there's a lot of action so that's good :)

ps. I forgot how annoying the original sounds were =D (no offense to sound guy =0 )

ok heres my amalgamation of the ideas stated above with my own spice.

add a good piece of climactic music for soundtrack.

create a rough storyline for the video which fits the music, a buildup to and attack on something with shots from the comm directing the attack intertwined with footage from ground level and fp view

Remove or edit clips which dont seem exciting or interesting to someone who has never played empires or is biased becuase of their 1.00 experiences. play the video to a non empires friend or family member and get them to tell you extremely honestly the bits which they think are boring/uninteresting.

keep it under 2 minutes. Honestly, the less gameplay you show, the more curious someone will be about the mod and the more likely they are to come and get hooked on it.

I think that opposingly, short scenes bore people. You don't get to see much of the thing that is represented, so you don't really get a picture of what is going on. I don't mean to record an entire game, but just have longer bits with more sense to them. Or then have more of the short bits, but make them be connected to each other.

but , i don't think people would like to watch whole minits of footage , that is boring .
eg. TV ads - very short scenes , a complete barrage of images very fast , thats why ther good for advertisers , it just intrest people more.

Keep them short, but long enough to get the point across. 5 - 10 seconds is a good length of time.

I just got back from Utah, very fun btw, but here's my few bits on the video (In case you didn't know, I made Promo Vid #1 so you can critique my work as well)

Indeed I believe that short but sweet clips are the key, my video was too epic and drawn out to be a fit advertisement. Try and find a balance between my video and yours, with complete action but short enough to catch and hold the eye of the viewer.

Also, music would be nice. Sometimes that is the hardest decision; definitly go instrumental for an easy way to find something that is somewhat not distracting.
As you saw from the credits in my video (Which you pretty much copied lawl :D) I used www.freeplaymusic.com for my music; a great royalty-free music download site with all instrumental music. It's also organized by mood!

That's about it I think. Thanks for contributing, and I'm going to start work on my video soon. Right now I'm making a DVD of all this footage of rocks and canyons :)

jim: are you a fan of the dune books?

anyhow i thought it was good show of what most games look like , but there was a lack of showing how to set up tanks and driving them also showing players how to manage skills as well, things like that are really neet too.
