whenever I try to start Empires v2.25 an error message comes ups saying... Client.dll init() in library client failed. I have tried everything
1. Do you have a Source engine game which Empires is a mod for? 2. If yes, do you have Source SDK Orange Box installed? (in your tools tab) 3. If yes what CPU do you have?
Do you happen to have another computer where you can test Steam, or try running another game that has steamworks.
A few points you could also check: 1. Do you have an anti-virus programm running that could have corrupted your download? 2. You did download the full 2.25 client (680 MB) and not a patch or the server files? 3. I found this solution in the steam forums: Try cleaning all Steams registry keys from the windows registry. from here.
I found that one I don't know how to clean the keys though and I'm also afraid of messing around with the registry at all
It should pop up a diagnostic tool that checks your computer for any software or hardware that could cause issues with Steam and Source games. EDIT: It looks like this:
I got something like that. it said in the background FAIED. Background Processes: Failed The following background processes were found on your system. Please try exiting or uninstalling them, and see if that resolves your issue Process: Apache.exe Apache WebServer is installed on this computer, use while playing a game can cause lag Severity: Low Process: nSvcIp.exe Nvidia Network Access Manager Firewall is running. Make sure all required ports are open, and all instances of Steam.exe, hl.exe, and hl2.exe are allowed access to the internet. This also may cause lag or pauses during gameplay. Severity: Very High Process: nSvcIp.exe Nvidia Network Access Manager Firewall is running on this system - may cause lag or pauses Severity: Low
There could be your problem. Try if Empires runs if you disable the Nvidia Network Access Manager Firewall. If it does add exceptions for Steam and Empires and open needed ports.
http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t3455.html Try to simply remove it via Add/Remove Programs
Failing that: Log out of steam. Navigate to C:\program files\steam or program files (x86) if you use a 64 bit windows. Delete the file called "Clientregistry.blob" Log back into steam. It'll do some updating and redownload some files.
