When the commander speaks, everyone else should get muted to allow him/her to be heard. This could extend to squad leaders too; such that Commander (silences) > Squad leaders (silences) > Squad members (silences) > Anyone else. That, and/or have the commander voice show up as a different colour, so you can be sure to listen to them. Pros: Lets the commander command more easily. Cons: May not be possible with source engine. Other: People spamming could be an issue, so perhaps limitation to commander only would be preferable.
If added, it should be a toggle option available in the comm interface. I don't want to mute my entire team every time I micspam.
Sounds like it should be two keys... to be honest, if the comm is micspamming anyway, you'd probably have to mute him, so this wouldn't really change much.
sounds like it can be griefed, someone could be constantly pressing the mic button, a better way to do it should be that it makes the players quieter, like channel commanders in TS.
With 20+ players on a team, and 10 wildly different pings, this is becoming a serious problem. Getting heard as a commander almost requires admin commands to "clear comms," or a delay of 5 seconds for every order (e.g. asking everyone to be quiet, waiting for them to be quiet, and then giving the order). I agree. The need for the feature outweighs the potential it has to be griefed. While I like the idea of quieting instead of muting, it's easier to hear orders given over silence than incessant murmuring.
there should also be a sound effect when initiating a commander transmission as well. should be startrekky/tribes2 ish
commanding attention is a part of the job you need a non-intrusive solution. like making the color have a light tint of the team color, like in team chat.
Top Secret Clearance Required! *Ahh* Anyways. I'm all for this, however this needs to be defaulted to OFF. This option could also only be unlocked after you've commanded a full game or so without getting kicked. Those who know how it works don't tell.
