THANK YOU! It was a troll magnet and although a seemingly great addition to the forums, for this community it aided in spreading toxins and abuse. If they have something toxic to say, let them post it and remain sticky for others to comment on the error of their ways, instead of a transitory drive-by forum.
But I like driveby smack talk... No seriously though chat box is great for random small talk that doesn't really need a thread. It's like spec chat without empires making my cpu run all hot and bothered.
If it fixed the buggy forums, fine. But it was used for saying things that don't need a thread, just little tidbits of garbage that weren't relevant to anything, which is great on a forum. Nobody wants to read long posts about what people are currently eating.
Honestly, I'd just encourage more use of the Empires Discord server. It seemed pretty empty last time I was in there.
the problem is it wasn't just used for small chit chat. It was also used to insult server owners admins and devs.
See guys - it's fine, we don't need no stinking chat applet to talk some good smack. Flame wars are so impersonal and flippant when they get scrolled off
Idk what you're chatting about tbh. I've been using it for 2 months now and I've been thoroughly impressed. Definitely better than teamspeak and offers everything IRC used to before.
My experience has been the same, it's pretty good and I've only experienced minor hiccups with their mobile app but the desktop application is solid. The main thing that kept me away from the empires discord is the fact that I was already using it with my IRL friends so I didn't want to have to deal with switching account or anything seeing as my account uses my real name. ... The other thing that kept me away is you guys are mean.
Yeah I mainly use the EPIC Discord but it's not any hassle to be connected to 2 servers at once. I mean I only use voice in EPIC but I'd be happy to contribute to chat in Empires or whatever. I don't even have access atm, someone needs to make a new link to it. You can use discord.me to make a permanent hardlink.
Used it a couple of times with destroyer. It lowered his output only on my end significantly somehow and i wasnt able to hear the other person entirely. Problems on both ends were had, we went back to ts.
Discord seems nice and I want to like it, but not seeing any chat history is kinda annoying. I think I lose any chat history too if my computer goes to sleep. Though that just seems to be a permission thing it looks like, but I don't quite like not being able to see what people were talking about before.
Why not ban all forms of communication because it can be used to spread toxic material (and Mrdie propaganda too)! I'd put a serious censor script for all harmful words like 'new player', 'bad comm' and 'ref pls'
i make a motion to ban all users, to prevent toxic communication and critiquing of "server hosters", their dogs and donald trump ofc...
You better message valve and which ever company makes TS too, since people use that to communicate as well.
Let's play ban roulette, ban 10 users a day for 10 days. Chances are that of the 100, they'll all be inactive users. The only question is, are we betting men?
With Discord, if you're using voice it'll use a local server to wherever it was created. So if someone from the UK is talking to someone in Australia, and the server was created (or is localised) in the US, then you're going to have a bit of a choppy connection - since they'll both go to the US server then through. It doesn't actually lose message history, unless you're using the web-version and not the app. The app keeps the chat of forever, so you can go back in a year and find that trolling video that you loved, if you're looking for it. It has some tie-in functionality that they keep adding to, but you can (and probably should) just turn that stuff off if you're not using it. As far as I can tell the "display what game I'm currently playing" setting doesn't mess with anything too much, though. I don't use the overlay or streamer mode, though I'm sure those probably will.
