Change emp_eng_restrict and the property in emp_info_params

    Right now, you can set it to either not restrict anything, restrict walls only, or restrict all engineer buildings. Can this be split up into individual properties, separate for turrets (maybe even MG/ML), surveillance devices (same here), walls and ammo boxes?

    Suggested many times before.

    I still dont know why noone bothered at least archiving, since it would be really good.
    Then again, youd need to recompile every single map if im correct, so mapper lobby will be against it :p

    Set the defaults to "allow building" and only need to recompile district and escort? Besides, we have Dz and Silk and kinda sorta if you close both eyes me to do that.

    I though the problem with getting some maps back was that mappers were anal about someone tweaking their work, and now most of them arent around anymore.

    If we dont use the options given by the change then whats the point of the change?

    So we want new people to play as engineer.....But you want to make it so more maps can restrict engineer abilities. Hate maps like that.
    Hey drop a mg- sorry can't
    Hey drop a camera - sorry can't.
    Hey drop some ammo -sorry can't.
    Person dies- go to revive just as they respawn.
    Hey why do we not have any engineers reviving ? - Cuz this map is shit and playing engineer on it sucks.

    Those are usually put in place to prevent glitching or making walls fuck up gameplay on inf maps. Why does eastboro not have wall limits is beyond me.

    eastborough does have wall limits. its just in places that matter, like inside buildings or places where they could lead to exploiting

    Sorry to derail, but this really pisses me off as well.

    Turrets/cameras/walls are the lifeblood of the engy.

    It wouldn't be cool to be walking along and be unable to use your mortar, so why is it ok to not be able to drop your turret? It encourages lazy map design.

    id go so far to argue its no mapping issue per se, but you know lvl3mgs - i never read a single guy asking how to block lvl3mls because theyd be imba for the map.
    tbh the only other thing i read as request was ammoboxes on district and if i bothered i sure could find a way to argue its the nadespam, not the boxes, but its district.

    disabling is the worst fix for a problem.

    Think of it the other way. It would allow people to disable radars on district and for BE on escort to prevent the silly situations we see where a newbie BE guy plops down a nicy and shiny radar. And while in most cases such a restriction has no place to be on classic maps, some conquest and objective maps might benefit from a few well-placed restrictions.

    new players doing stupid things isnt the best argument. they will do irrational things unless you restrict them to a point where empires becomes a rail shooter stripped of every choice.

    Engineer buildables are partially balanced around vehicles being able to destroy them. That's why they're restricted on maps with low tier/no vehicles, and entirely unrestricted on the official Escort.

    that sounds good and all - but just in theory. infact - at least according to the changelogs - neither turret range, rof, damage nor health have been touched since 1.04 beta.

    That's not a bad point. Since engy radars are 100% worthless in those situations, then it makes sense to disable them.

    since its a 100% worthless people wont do it anyway -> the problem lies elsewhere, in case of camera and radar its just a misunderstanding - or trolling, but if you want to be worthless you can be worthless in so many ways that removing all of it would come back to railshooter with null choice.
