    Please run Validate game files on your Empires installation.

    If you are still having problems, install .NET Framework 3.5 on your computer.

    I'm getting an error: "Setup file 'gameinfo.text' doesn't exist in subdirectory '..\empires
    empires'.
    Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting."

    Can you post the full path to your source sdk base 2007 folder and your empires folder?

    Is there a gameinfo.txt file in the empires/empires folder?

    Sorry, I'm not very good with computers, but I'm assuming this is what you mean when you ask for the path to Source SDK 2007:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\arliblow329\source sdk base 2007
    Empires:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\arliblow329\empires\empires

    I indeed did not have a gameinfo.txt file in my empires folder; doing a reinstall right now.

    If you need gameinfo.txt, here's mine.

    Code:
    "GameInfo" {
    	game	"Empires"
    	title	"EMPIRES"
    	developer "Empires Mod Team"
    	developer_url "http://www.empiresmod.com"
    	icon "resource/steam_icon"
    	manual	"http://www.empiresmod.com/help"
    	type 	multiplayer_only

    	FileSystem {
    		SteamAppId 17740 // GCF for TF2, required for ep2 sdk
    		ToolsAppId 211 // Tools will load this (ie: source SDK caches) to get things like materials\debug, materials\editor, etc.

    		SearchPaths {
    			Game				|gameinfo_path|.
    			Game				Empires
    			Game				|all_source_engine_paths|sourcetest
    			Game				|all_source_engine_paths|hl2
    		}
    	}
    }
    Put that into "\Steam\steamapps\<your name>\empires\empires" as "gameinfo.txt"

    I don't have "Source SDK base 2007" installed. I will try installing it.
    I tried replacing all the missing files from a partial backup I have of Empires folder. Still no go. HL.exe has been copied back. gameinfo.txt is in empires/empires.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\caddley\empires\empires
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\caddley\source sdk base 2007

    gameinfo.txt is there, same content as the one Reznov posted. Crashed the same way Neoony's did.

    I just checked my SDK2007 folder and I don't have a gameinfo.txt in that one.
    You sure you need one in there? It works fine without it for me.

    I copy and pasted the game info text that Reznov gave me, and when I attempted to run empires from the .bat file, I got a weird screen with the title of "E[valve][valve][valve]res" and the only options I have are to conduct a stress test, options, and quit.

    Guys check your common folder in steam\steamapps\common\

    somehow my empires got installed there. I first thought it was in the right place (steamapps/your_user_name) but what i thought was empires was just the rest of my old uninstalled empires version. So what I did was:

    1. Uninstall empires
    2. check steamapps\your_user_name\ for old empires folders and delete those
    3. And redownload empires
    4. Check the steamapps\common\ folder if it contains an empires folder, if so copy/move it to steamapps\your_user_name\
    5. Use jephirs batchfile to start empires
    6. wait for a fix

    it worked for me so far

    Here is what I get :

    D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\justgofly\Source SDK base 2007>hl2.exe -game ..\empires\empires
    'hl2.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    Are you assuming hl2.exe is in my system path ?
    I modified it to:
    "D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\justgofly\Empires\hl2.exe" -game ..\empires\empires

    I also restored the missing HL2 files and did another integrity check - this time it replace 81 files. Seems to work now - more later.

    It won't work from inside steam, but does from the batch file - I'm running XP. You may need to run the CMD prompt from admin rights if Vista or Win 7.

    OK - no good. It runs with new initial screen, but when I try to join a game it says:
    "Disconnected: Server uses different class tables".

    well i didn't check that. I just deleted all empires stuff by uninstall and manual delete, redownloaded it, found it in common, moved it to my_user_name and used the batchfile. It worked then. But yeah i guess the patch was just downloaded into the "common" folder somehow.

    my second "shortcut" in steamlibrary seems to be updating the right empires in youraccount\empires

    (deleted the empires in common folder, still got 2 shortcuts in steamlibrary)

    EDIT: because i had empires SVN Sourcemods folder
