Stop trying to force rails. Let the concept artist/modeller have creative freedom. It looks fine without rails, ignore the haters Mayama.
So i think the mp5 like stock is fine Edit: I dont make the stock supersmooth cause you wont see it anyway.
looks great - told you that on irc already ... sculpt some scars, add textures and bug some dev to implement it :D
Some of the modelling on the earlier images looks rather dodgy but the design is nice. What program are you using to model it?
You could reduce the drum's size to match with the height of the handle. This way you could use it on a flat surface and aim straight forward with the support of the drum and the handle. You could reduce the drum's size with the excuse that it's spiral drum. But you don't need to do that. I just feel that the drum is a bit too big and it would also make sense if the drum and the handle were the same height but it's a nice model never the less. Keep working on it.
Cause unwrapping and baking bump maps works totaly different in the new 3ds max and I have no clue how to do it. Their will be enough time to decide all that stuff.
The first stock was better. How has unwrapping changed? I thought it was the same in max 9 as in max 2009, and I'm fairly sure it was the same in 2008 which I think I used in first year. I do know it's a pain in the ass in any version though.
sweet, a few hints of mine, if something is super-smooth to start with on the model, it can simple be done with bumb-mapping to remove needless polys. in this case, the stuff on the drum, the stuff on the stock, and whatever else is smooth and probably can be replaced by bump-maps. (bump-map=normal map too, right?)
The holosight is a bit small. Does the thing on the side show an ammo counter? I think it is actually possible to arrange that using simple material proxies.
Mayama: The block the stock retracts into looks like crap. You haven't properly put it on the model, it looks like clipping geometry, not a part of the gun.
That's what you said previously too. It just looks like that because there's no dust or darker area near the edge where the clipping occures because normally all that kind of sharp edges gather some dust or whatnot shit there and they become more darker. I like that stock a lot. It's very good. But I noticed that even if the drum is too big, the trigger handle for sure is too small. If you compare the area in front of the drum where you are meant to hold then gun and the trigger handle and then imagine a hand there holding the gun, to me it seems that the pinkie isn't touching the handle. And true, you could use bump maps on the handle and the drum. ;P Wouldn't be so costy perforamnce wise.
I agree with Jessiah that the stock retraction block or whatever it should be called needs to translate more smoothly into the rest of the model, the gun also needs a meaty badass firing sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOPuEuJx1MY
Theirs a lot thats supposed to be bumpmapped on that gun, it has over 5.000.000 polys I wont change the drum The reflex sight isnt that small, if you position the gun so you can see through it and the stock is close to your "virtual" shoulder its big enough. The block on the back of the gun is made out of another material I might make something that it fits better. The drum size might change its all about how many rounds the devs want it to hold if it really gets implemented. I think I have to wait til beerdude is back for that. The trigger handle actually and trigger guard have the same size of as a standart assault rifle nowadays has, I make it a bit bigger so it looks correct
