Don't know if this has been suggested before, but how about a commander option for buildings to repair themselves? Not building, just repairing.

It would have to be much slower than an engineer doing the job, about 10% of the speed, and would cost n res/second. Possibly only up to a max of 80% also?

It sounds cool, but this feature would remove from the teamplay and reduce the need for units. I advocate the already suggested idea of making it so building structures does not reduce the engineer tool's energy, thus speeding up the set up structures and allowing the early game to move more fluidly.

I'm going to be depressed and bored to tears once I cant build fast anymore... It's damned pointless to just sit there waiting for your energy to come back, most of the time if a comm drops too much, I just ignore it especially in smaller servers. Building is fun to an extent... hard to define at what point it begins to ruin the game.

ow yeh but when you remove this, suddenly an engineer protecting 3 mls (worth 225, if as suggested in the other thread making them 100 a piece, would make it 300, still no difference if you ask me)
against a tank, is very wortwhile, the tank will have a hard time attacking those 3mls, when the engineer runs out of ammo, he wont be able to keep up with the damage the tank has made.
This is why I think it should stay, same for other buildings, one engineer can hide very easily in a vehicle factory, but he shouldnt be able to protect it by himself vs a tank that shoots constantly

    -the tank is more expensive
-tank does not haver unlimited ammo
-tank has to worry about heat and all the consequences

An engineer with repair skill can repair a vf so fast, one tank will not be able to kill it (heat, ammo) while the engi can constantly repair it while hiding inside of it somewhere (im sure you can imagine enough places to hide in a BE vf)
Not only that, if you look from it in a very odd pov, he is actually pretty much invincible (repairing) against a lot of vehicles and units, i dont really see any use in this or misuse/exploit, but i did say odd pov XD

So no I would definitly not want to see engineers have infinite ammo with repairing or healing, or building for that matter, I can understand its annoying to build when making a ref, but only when building a ref, everything else is powerfull when built (imagine forward bases where an engi can build a barracks in one go, without having to wait)

As long as it is only building which does not require ammo then I see no problem. Waiting for your energy to refill is so boring, especially with walls. I'd rather just have a slightly faster E button.

It would be nice if we didn't lose ammo for building, it does get slightly dull at times waiting for it to come back.

I do not agree, buildings like a barracks or vehicle factory (lets not forget the cv) are very powerfull, one engineer should not be able to hold off against one tank by repairing only, infinite ammo makes the engineer be able to do this in a lot of circumstances.
read my post a bit better please, the only thing that it would matter with is a refinery. I know ns does have this but its different, the buildings are small, and the weapons of the enemy are strong, there is no way you can hide behind something while building, next to that, you are very vulnerable while building. very different scenario

An automatic repair would be fairly nice, and something as a general example would be all buildings slowly repair up to 100%, but they autorepair at the same speed at which a non-engineer builds a structure (1hp/s or something), so that it is insignificant to someone destroying it, yet is very useful over time for minor and some major damages over long periods of time.

I thought about it, honestly, I like the game the way it is right now. But that idea is still out there, though.

Well auto-repair is like something from Red Alert, with the little wrench appearing over the building. I think it is useful, but is this something that the game really needs? as for the ulimited engi build, i am completely against it. if you don't want to be board, dont be an engi

yeh but in cnc it cost money to repair, I used to use it a lot, I wouldnt mind if it was there for 2 res a tick
