I'm no master mapper by any sense of the word, but I'm able to decompile any .bsp into a .vmf and toy around with it in Hammer. I thought I'd use that knowledge to attempt a few minor fixes that could make a big difference overall. An example would be changing the output of resource nodes from 1 per second to 2 or more. emp_cod comes to mind, as all but the "main" nodes are only 1/sec, meaning if both teams have an equal number of nodes (there are 6 total, so 3 each), they will only be getting 4 resources/sec for the duration of the game. I mentioned it briefly in-game to DocRabbit and Sgt. Security to see what other maps people thought were bad with resources. emp_flat and emp_dune were mentioned. Maybe increase the "x2" nodes in emp_crossroads to "x3", increase the x1's to x2, and increase the two center nodes to x4, or whatever. Possibly reducing the number of north and south nodes in emp_money from 8 to 2 and increasing the resource output to compensate. Or maybe remove a chunk of rock or a tree in emp_whatever that's in the way all the time. Turret placements, ammo/health caches... simple things. DocRabbit also had a great idea - using a hex editor to edit the .bsp map file and change the resource amount that way, which would circumvent the need to decompile/recompile completely. I'll look into that as well. On a side note, I don't want any credit for any small changes that I do. The map's creators are the creators, and I have zero interest in pushing my way in. I'll only move forward with maps that are requested by Empires staff, server owners, or map makers. That way I know what I'm doing will get uploaded. I encourage any of the aforementioned people to say "Yes, please do X and Y to that map" so I know its a legit request. Also, I may not be able to edit some maps. emp_escort, when decompiled, has hundreds of missing textures, but out of the half-dozen I've tried thus far it seems to be the only one, though there may be others. And I might only need to install other Source games to fix this. tl;dr: Which maps do you think need small changes that will make big improvements, and what are they? P.S. On an unrelated note, I've contacted James asking if I can help bring the wiki back online with spam protection and security. If anyone has any info for me on the best person to ask about it (if it's not James), I'm all eyes. I'll be happy to discuss it on Discord/Teamspeak as needed.
