The highest possible speed in source is something like 153 MPH without modifications. I think with modding you can change the limit, but you'll get collision anomalies (driving a jeep halfway through an enemy vehicle and getting stuck there, anyone?)
Indeed, which is why my thread is a lot more conservative - a 10% from cooling, armour and damage (and mebbe 20% on speed) will give an edge and a good edge if they're all on, but 80...bit much.
3000 u/sec is about 170 MPH, if the MPH corresponds to the 1 unit = 1 inch rule. (Though, if it does, the player runs at 15 MPH and sprints at nearly 20.) Railguns, if they aren't hitting a speed limit, are almost 200 MPH.
Just because it says 3000 doesn't mean it actually goes that fast. The max speed is 2000 u/s http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=585848&highlight=maximum+speed+source therefore, rails move at 2000u/s no matter what value you put in. When I said 153MPH before it was just a guess, that thread I linked has the real numbers.
Would it be possible for the devs to alter this speed limit with modifications? I think it would be nice to see cannon shells that don't cruise lazily through the air.
