Not having a dig at you specifically, but when posting reproduction steps it'd be a REALLY good idea to do it without running the testing cfg.

It shouldn't cause a problem but I can't be sure

well I did try it without testing and it does the same thing... I just forgot to mention that.

PS I am pretty sure the issue is what the console said.

    emp_nf_commander at (11248.000, 12640.000, -992.000) has no model name!
    emp_imp_commander at (-10351.800, -11944.000, -1112.000) has no model name!

Only server that is used for beta is that betatest(crashing?) server. All the others are empires 2.41. Unless candles updated something but the server wasn't.

I'm not sure if that's even up to date at the minute. Would really need candles to comment. I'm sure it will be updated in time for the test though

The server list shows both 2.41 servers and 2.5 servers. You can't "cross" join from one game to another server even though the browser makes it look like you can.

This has nothing to do with any error. NF/BE CV entities don't set model name but code sets it later so they still get the model right. It's just that they don't get it at BSP parsing time.

    OK.

    Good news and bad news.

    Good news:

I found how to tone this down. Theres client side commands r_bloomint...

These control the brightness of certain colours so it would be possible to adjust the amount of brightness from HDR.

I thought of simply lowering the brightness on certain maps with the problems (sandy maps as youve said) BUT, cant think of a way to do that.

I presume that if clientside commands are put in the empires/empires/cfg/maps folder they will not execute when joining a dedicated server running the map (they do work on a local server).

Can someone clarify this or do I need to do my own testing?

What are peoples opinions on overwriting client settings to improve the defaults? I wouldn't imagine it would affect anyone (never heard of people changing that setting to control bloom) but definitely wouldn't want to just go ahead and do it

    • Killed the enemy NF refinery using the repair tool at the mvalley dam (the dam roof door as closed as well and I weakened the ref with 3 seismics before killing it, if that helps reproduce it) , CTD a split second after the building turned into a carcass.
    Crash Dumps Download
The crash dump corresponding to the above reported crash is: "crash_hl2.exe_20140323211953_1.dmp"
I don't know about the other two crash dumps as I don't remember crashing any other times. :o

    Crash Dump

I did a completely fresh install - destroyed all trace of old Empires and installed from Steam. Came down at 1.9 MBs with no issues. Followed instructions from the web site and only issue there was the instruction to hit PLAY also required you to choose the "Source 2013 launch test" not the "Play Empires".

I played a few games - crashed ONCE with everyone else, from Brenodi team. Was driving a heavy when game dumped me immediately out. Tank was still there when I returned, so the game looked to be running fine on the server it just dumped all or most of the players.

Dump Here - not sure why there are more than one file, since I only detected one crash.

Game seemed to run well - no complaints. I played once as commander and everything seemed normal. I think my mouse settings were slow but that was because the new install.

    GOOD JOB !

Was there for about half of the testing and didn't have any crashes. Half the time on my desktop the other on my laptop.(both very low end) All stock settings with only beta installed. Was there when most of the people crashed. No server lag or anything just all of a sudden everyone was gone. But when they crashed I was just screwing around in main by myself think I was looking down to repair a camera when it happened.

I encountered the same crash Gofly already reported.

Unfortunately I cannot tell what was causing the crash.
Hope with at least two crash dumps from different clients you can hunt the bug down.

Concering the double dumps reported by Gofly:
I noticed that empires seems to have problems to shut down hl2 properly and produces crash dumps when closing.
Sometimes it even stays accounted as still running by steam although it was shut down and cannot be found in any task manager.
If this is the case one needs to kill steam because it doesn't want to quit before empires "closed properly".
Otherwise one cannot play empires again and/or switch from empires default installation to beta testing mode.
This happend to me right when the beta testing started today.

Crashed when I was messing with the vehicle customization menu in a tank while sitting on a repair pad.

Turrets placed by commander don't line up with floor correctly. This causes them to kinda float off the ground a bit. In certain places, mid ref in isle and palmbay, it is possible to cause it to float high enough to prone under.

Everything else was just dandy I think.

Also the beta version just went live. Neat

Edit:Yeah, I have 2 more dumps from when I closed out empires my self.

Did they? I couldn't find out because when I went to switch to the 2007 version candles already updated empire, so I couldn't roll back.

Also when the server changed to cross roads it emptied everyone out, saying your crossroads.bsp differs from servers. This happened after you released the 2.5 version.

Most of the time people just didn't notice. Same thing happens with all buildings but the others have extended bottoms to hide it better.

Also candles, I don't know if you changed crossroads between the test and and when you released it, but I and everyone else couldn't connect to the testing server when it went to crossroads. Said the bsp differed from the server.

Oh regarding alignment of commander turrets. I noticed when I commanded that some walls were in the ground. You could walk over them - the top of the wall was a black line in the ground that could be raised with the calculator but were not right. Nothing major but thought you might want to know. I didn't notice any issue with commander turrets, and I dropped a lot of them. I think your at 100% playable once you fix the crash. And 99% with 1% minor issues.

I also checked when I quit that my status did NOT show that I was still in Empires, like the SDK 2007 normally does. I usually have to reboot to make it show me as idle status.

Also if you are posting the test server could you put it on the epic sourcebans. I can check that from my phone to see if anyone is on Viper or Epic. If it shows 0, I don't bother booting the PC. See links in my signature for Epic/Viper.

Yeah, I rebuilt the cubemaps for crossroads and escort but I didn't update the server. I'll do that now.

If you're using Steam, shouldn't mdmps be available through Steam site?
