with the timer and research displayed topleft of the screen you could add the cancel button next to that (for the com), then you could completely remove the research submenu and make the research button go directly to the research tree, since the submenu gives the exact same info that is now displayed topleft (except for the cancel button atm) makes commanding/researching a tad faster/easier
