And why would you also want to have scouts be able to climb walls(which i liked) and also have a scoped rifle? I don't care how it performs, if it has a scope people will camp at range and try to snipe with it. Squad and team play should be encouraged. Obviously if you need a scope to use your gun your gonna be out of the squad aura.
Worst of the four classes in any sort of combat, technically tied with engineer in most things. There's nothing a scout can do that an engineer can't do, except the engineer can do more, and it can do it better. So while scout in close quarters combat with the right skills "works well," so does every other class. Personally I would like a complete redesign of the scout, giving the scout and rifleman equal ability in killing infantry. The scout would emphasize mobility, the rifleman would emphasize fortitude. However, this is simply unrealistic right now, since the scout and the engineer are stuck with the same weapons (except the scout rifle) and we're unlikely to really ever get any replacements. Therefore, the only combat weapon the scout has that the engineer doesn't is the scout rifle, and it should be made stronger to reflect the fact that the scout doesn't have jack shit on the engineer.
This discussion is not leading to a result, because people have their fixed opinion. For all the scout rifle lovers: Give them an effective scout rifle next version. But plan the release of the following version shortly after, that we can play the open maps again. It also would be nice if someone can post some other games with such open maps and effective sniper rifles.
but we had those in before whatever version changed it and it was shit thats why it was such a broad agreement on replacing it adden: i have to partially agree with pickled, the scout is very similar to the engineer. maybe working out his close combat nature more could be helpful (for example make certain common skills only available to the scout?) as long as we have no new weapons we are pretty much stuck with what we have on that side - scout rifle or not ...
And we shouldn't have them in the game just cause every other game has them. It's more of a realism class then fun. An effective scout helps his squad in many ways like stunning, sabbing, capping, ect... If he got a sniper he would just be using none of those skills or tools except maybe spotting. So by keeping the sniper you are nerfing him more as a teammate then as an individual going for good KDR's.
Again, it depends entirely on the player, if you have a noob who's not doing anything other than snipe, if you remove sniper rifles he's just going to either leave, or play a shitty useless class.
skillslot prereq or making it a semi-automatic carbine version of the NF heavy rifle/BE carbine (like a real carbine, since the BE carbine is not a carbine).
former: allows for a buff of the scout rifle without encouraging it all over the battlefield. discourages hide scouts with leet skillz. latter: it's more fun if it was balanced for this firing speed as it's only enjoyable using the scout rifle with the exploit
oh so cs is played on maps like duststorm? haha i would want to hear the whining if they couldnt hug corners ...
