Long time no post. I'm on current stable Empires (2.10, I think). When I exit the game, it doesn't actually exit. The screen remains black forever, and the computer can't be used. I've worked around by ctrl+alt+delete and using the arrow keys to lock my screen, but you cannot actually see the ctrl+alt+delete screen. It stays black until the windows lock screen is up and running. Not sure if it's an Empires problem or a source-engine-on-win10 problem. Figured I'd report it anyway, since I can't find a similar bug reported already.

I'm running windows 10 (whatever the latest update is), with an AMD 460 w/current stable drivers.

I have also found a ton of crashdumps in my folder, if they're of any use.

What are you doing to quit the game?

Using the exit button on the main game menu. Sometimes I do it while still on a server, but it doesn't matter -- same behavior.

I fixed some bugs that were happening during exit, it should be included in the next patch that is planned in about a month. Would you mind posting here if the problem persists in the next patch?

I have this exact same problem. I have been rebooting, but will try the lock/unlock to alleviate. It seems to be a new thing.
I'm running a Gigabyte G1 Gaming Radeon R9 380 video board, and Windows 10 Pro,
    Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393

Could it be OS based? Or graphics hardware based? Does it happen with other source games?

What exact version of Source does Empires use? What other games use it? If I have one, I'm game to test.

I ask because my memory is that usually Empires isn't the latest version (So I can't just spin up CS:GO or something).

@Aranjedeath as far as I know we're on source 2013. But its just "source engine" so is probably the same as tf2, csgo and other source games that have been updated lately...

But don't go buying a game just to see if it's the engine xD. Waiting for the next update might fix it.

@Thexa4 Will probably be able to give you mode details...

But to add to this conversation, I'm using win10, Intel cpu, nvidia gfx, and have had no problems whatsoever...

Yes, TF2 should be nearly the same, we're up to date with the latest released version.

It has happened to me too, these two times I played Empires in the past 50 days, it didn't do anything and I had to restart. I also have mighty WIN 10

    Cool cool. I'll test today.

    @Ranger: ctrl+alt+delete -> wait a sec -> down arrow -> enter
that's your lock screen. password or pin code as necessary.

Woops, forgot to reply here. Similar, but not same, behavior with CS:GO.

There, on exit, the screen is also black, but sometimes I can trigger a relaunch of the game (hit enter during black screen) as if the screen is blank but the content is hiding. aka somehow I can trigger the still-open steam selection of CS:GO from my games menu. Not the same behavior, but black screen still present.

If you've "fixed bugs relating to exit" in the upcoming version, I suspect the behavior of Empires will synchronize with that of CS:GO. Not sure how they can get away with a bug like this, though. I can't imagine a machine such as mine is outside of expected parameters for a modern source game. Perhaps it's an AMD driver problem and I have to wait on the gods to smile on us all?

Having the gods smile upon us would be convienient. I'll see if I can think of a solution in the meantime :)
