Any suggestions, my budget is about max 800-900€. 13-14" screen preferred, I want long battery life over performance, but it would be a nice to have to be able to play some games on it. Also I hate glossy screens. I'm looking atm at the Acer Timeline X Series.
Wait what custom notebooks? Where can I learn more about this wizardry. Also its not an option, because im getting it bought.
My notebook is custom, I've had it for 2 years. It was a UK site (overclockers.co.uk) that did it. Not sure if they still do though. The case itself isn't very good, and the disk tray is shitty as hell. It gets really hot and the battery lasts like 90 minutes at best. But the specs were really really good at the time. Like better than 90% of desktop PCs. And I basically use it as a portable computer anyway, so it's fucking awesome for me.

Well yeah if you're using 100% CPU for a few hours straight of course it's going to drain more power.
He said he's going to uni to study CS. That means that he'll be using either text editor & compiler or PowerPoint probably in ratio 50 : 1.

The thinkpads look pretty cool, I've read some nice reviews about them as well. Personally I'd just get an apple with that budget, they're strong and have a great screen.
