Agreed ... entirely. Also the part about asking a coder to change the detail sprites system to make them parallel to the surface ... very, very interesting. *hint*
there is alot of iron in that soil. you gotta make the middle stone more interesting. I actually dont like it at all. But lets see where you can take it.
ya the old mesa just looked terribly out of place so removed it. Im also going to need some rocks made that fit this color scheme or some rocks retextured.
Borrowing from something Chris mentioned in another thread, why not try using colorcorrection to make everything orange, and have more desaturated textures? I'm not that big on using map-wide color correction, but it could work out, or at least would make testing faster for finding an optimal color balance, rather than swapping out textures and recompiling lighting.
swapping out textures doesnt take much time at all actually, recompiling the lighting too see your color correction lighting would take longer, I just swapped out the textures and I can see the change real time in hammer, not with lighting or anything but a pretty good idea.
We on Mars now? I find it really too orangey... I would like to see it darker on lower levels and lighter on high ones. Significantly too... so dark brown, orange, tan. Or something like that. Additionally, the new center rock need to be more rock like and less soil-y
You haven't seen orange until you've seen emp_blah4. Now that map, is truly Mars like. This doesn't even come close.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RealityIsUnrealistic I accept that that photograph is not mars because it has to be on earth because of where it is taken from, also the sky and water, however in a videogame I will assume that you are trying to make mars and failing.
Well I never see blah played anymore so maybe people don't like playing on mars. Blah is orange but this just looks red. It doesn't look bad but I like old one more.
Overall, the colors look fine to me. The bloody mesa in the middle needs some work. Also, will the bridges be easier to drive over now? Or are they intentionally annoying.
So are you admitting that you're view of reality is actually not realistic? Also, looks great I think much of the problem is that this is the quick compile, so the textures look a little different than you would with a full vvis/vrad compile.
The terrain needs more grey in it, and since they are out in the desert(?) there shouldn't be alot of clouds in the skybox, oh but then that would be too realistic. the terrain needs more grey in it.
