It takes longer and longer to get the ship back, kinda like a respawn penalty. They said something also like the value of the ship changes the wait time, super cheap ships are a short wait but those 300$ ships might be a week or 2 of real life wait time.

I actually like this system, it's not the ace online pvp setting I really enjoyed but for star citizen's scale and setting it makes a lot of sense.

So.. If I get this right, pay lots of monies for ship, get gangbanged by others for having the ship, wait 2 weeks for ship to respawn, get gangbanged again, wait 2 weeks again..

    Sounds fun, worth the monies.

I think its the best system to encourage people to value their ships, particulary when we see mining ships, repair ships, etc.
Those fleet ships are going to be the way you make money so it makes sense to pay others, or get people from your organisation to act as escorts.

Its similar with their approach to "perma death". Whilst you obviously can't lose all the stuff you pay for you can actually perma die. Though you might get shot out of the sky your body will often be recoverable and revived (a la Mass effect 2) - we can rebuild him, etc. But each time you'll suffer some long term damage, aethetic and mechanical. However theres always a chance you'll be unrevivable in which case all your stuff is passed on to your next character, who will start with less reputation. You'll not lose anything you paid real money for, but you might lose some of your in-game achievements or progress. I think its a nice way to handle it, making your character kind of tangiable, each time you "die" you roll the dice that you may actually be brown-bread forever.

I'm a bit lucky someone I know funded like £10K and so has pretty much every ship besides the super 1km long bengal type carrier. So obviously I'll be rolling with his org.

I love the idea of no levelling or skill trees, whatever you decide to do will be down to skill.
Here has some pretty cool info about how the jobs will work out conceptually.

As I understand it gameplay mechanics will prevent that, but also if you do move around in your Idris frigate or your Catapillar Cargo craft alone, with no support you are kind of asking to get hit. The big ships are designed to be focal points for the organisation and rarely will be going around with skeleton staff. But you could rent some NPC crew to staff the turrets and contract someone to fly escort for you, so in that regard - yes you could get gangbanged over and over again, but that'll be because you are doing it wrong, ships are assets you use to make money so you'll have to protect them.

Ohh and also - you don't necessarily need to spend $350 on a ship. Even if you are acting alone it's likely you'd be able to buy that ship with in-game cash in 2-3 months.

Why are people talking about good games? I though people who played Empires only played terrible games.

Also, you can't really enjoy Star Citizen with the current performance. Or you have to play "singleplayer" by hacking some stuff to get 60 FPS. Otherwise enjoy 20 FPS and below. So yeah, supposedly the performance improvement is coming soonTM, my brother is evocati (for those of you who know what that means) and he says testing for next version will begin soonTM.

Also, also, you don't buy ships, you donate money for game development. People who say "oh I bought a ship and deserve to have some kind of insurance" deserve to get fucked over.

lol, possibly but that wasn't the point. The Evocati is what CIG calls the first wave of 1000 testers from the community who work closely with the developers and official bug testers.

Edit: CIG = Cloud Imperial Games. In case there's more confusion.

you do realize that there are laws concerning ads, you cant advertise one thing and sell smthg different, thatd be fraud (dont hamg me if its not the correct lehal term in English)? but aside of that, i actually meant "thats not what is offered on their page".

Your argument stems from describing one thing using two different sets of words.

Yeah, on the store page and the ship pages it doesn't mention anywhere that you are just donating stuff. They are running it like a business and offering the game and the fancy ship in these packages as actual things you get.

One could view it with the way the game is suppose to be, a more realistic or hardcore setting, that yeah you buy the ship but just like in real life if you wreck or lose it, oh well too bad. Most games don't really have that, it's very permanent. I think that might be a cause of problems related to" what do you mean I can't fly my fancy ship I just lost?". People expect things to be permanent and they just aren't really in this game.

I don't expect my Aurora to be permanent because I bought the game not the fucking ship, I don't know why it'd be any different with other ships.

Yeah. I will say that every ship and package give insurance though, and it's not suppose to be super expensive to get in game either. So it's definitely not a case that your ship is like a rare resource that you don't want to be using, I guess people don't want to deal with any sort of maintenance.

I'm kinda reminded of a game(can't remember which one) where if your ship or tank or whatever got damaged you couldn't use it til you got it repaired. If you were doing badly you most likely couldn't use it ever thanks to those repair costs, so you would end up using the default shitbox which was simply terrible. I think if you ever got to that point it was either easier to start a new account or game(can't remember if this was single or multiplayer either, but I know it existed). That or grind in the lower areas for cash, but in any case it was pretty bad and that sounds like the only other option for a game like star citizen.

Know how bad of a pilot I am I can't wait to constantly be making emergency repairs while floating adrift in space. Especially because I want to be one of those explorer guys flying around worm holes, this is gonna be great.

I guess I kind of liken it to when I play racing sims. If you are doing an endurance race your main concern is not damaging the car so you have to manage the pace.
I like that and I think it will have the same effect in SC. One bad landing and you are stuck on a planet, you might need to call help and pay someone to patch you up, etc.
It's going to make it interesting, if you could instantly recall huge battleships with no penalty they would kind of lose their value

3.0 production schedule landed for anyone not following. Expected late June.... So probably late July. Anyway, back aboard the hypertrain.

Hoping we can start buying ships and shit with aUEC and they get the Levski Stretch goal in.

What ships does everyone have? Why did you choose it/them and are you enjoying it now.

I've a 325a and I like it's concept. I dig Origin Jumpworks luxury brand image and the 300 series grand tourer vibe, I think it'll be pretty useful with its decent range ( jump drive capable and bed aboard for save point in the deep black). But it is long overdue a 300 series rework yet it is nowhere on the cards.

It doesn't make much sense in arena commander but I prefer it in the PU. Particularly as I don't expect to see many of the current meta fighters out there since they won't have jump drives.

I still kinda want to upgrade it to a flashy fighter like a super hornet or Sabre - but I reckon I might regret that later on. I've rented with REC most of the fighters and weapons.

I really like the retaliator though, friend of mine has one and seeing the torpedo bay working is fucking ace.
