For some reason, mines only do 100 damage against infantry. To reproduce, take HP upgrade and step on a mine. You'll be left with 30 HP.
It's intentional, though I totally forgot this was a thing. I really should be less afraid of ladders I guess.
I mean... really? There's this huge button in the middle of my keyboard that allows me to avoid the very obvious black/brownish thing twenty feet in front of me.
There's many ladders where jumping can't help you(thanks mappers). Something to do with mining raxes too, can't really jump to avoid if you spawn on top of it. I agree it's very easy to avoid mines, but it's also not very hard to place them so people just can't avoid them either. Really, I don't really care if mines are lethal or not, I just don't think a gren should close out entire areas by himself against infantry. 8 anti inf mines is kinda high ya know?
1. Hasn't there been spawn protection in the game for a while now? I know that I used to deliberately step on mines if I knew there were any in the rax right after spawning just to defuse them with immunity. Also, you should be penalized if you let the enemy get into your rax, anyway. 2. I don't think I've ever been killed by a truly unavoidable mine. Even those on top of ladders can be avoided by kind of jumping to the side, and it's good habit to do so on the obvious ladders.
Some maps have ladders with walls near the top, so you can't just jump at an angle over them or something. A clever gren will place mines around corners or at pits where infantry commonly fall, yes they are avoidable but 99% of the playerbase isn't 100% focused at the time to properly react to cookies right next to them, assuming they even see it as they round a corner. You make it sound like it's hard to get into an enemy rax. There's spawn protection of like 1 second, I have never seen anyone able to not die near instantly in a rax full of mines or a gren with melee upgrade. It's never going to get any longer either thanks to apcs.
Anyways, we are just repeating one of the usual empires cycles. Think it was sometimes in spartacus times when we had this. But I would probably really rather give everyone mine detection. If mines are such a problem to some. Then you would always have a chance at least noticing some random mines. Which would make people like me use them a bit differently probably But honestly I dont care anyways You just put 2 and its done, I hardly noticed it last time we had it, lol people died the same...and they usually seemed, like it felt the same way to them XD
I mean, overall it's not a problem I care about *too* much, because I just use mines the same way I use turrets - as expendable distractions and considerations to the enemy team. It still does seem incredibly silly, though, that mines can't immediately kill an engineer with HP upgrade. I could *possibly* understand a grenadier or a rifleman running over a mine and barely surviving (and even then, it's still somewhat bullshit), but it's silly that an engineer (or presumably a scout) can just take HP upgrade, step on a mine, and live.
Well, its supposed to be an upgrade after all or not? Realism? Its just one. Actually I think the last time we had it, mines did less than 100 damage or not? It wasnt upgrade based was it? Anyone remembers exactly?
this is game breaking wait until i tell you that the rationale was that players are really bad and stepping on mines is apparently one of the big reasons why new players stop playing this game
I haven't noticed a change in mine mortality rates and I'm rarely looking at my feet. The complaints here feel like an overreaction.
because most average players don't know they can get heath upgrade and never die from mines again because it was only mentioned in the retarded script changes last patch.
