Hello good people of the Empires forum, I hereby announce that I am quiting my position as moderator of this forum. This is caused by the lack of support of the current administration for having a moderated forum (e.g. infractions do nothing since months) and a general feeling of alienation with regards to the currently active user base. Since the takeover of forum/development by Catface, Tama and James at the beginning of this year I was regularly considering removing myself from the forum anyways. We all know that the old Empires community as we knew it was killed off when the inmates started running the asylum. But I had hopes that things would settle, that we would go back to the good old times, but this ain't gonna happen. Since I don't enjoy visiting internet communites without moderation to my standards , I will also stop being active on this forum. It were great 8 9 years that I spent here and I had the honor to get to know very smart and interesting people from all over the world. I will still be around on Steam and maybe even play Empires if we ever see a version that respects my time. Bye Guys! Your browser does not support the video tag.
Real shit went down when you got forum moderation powers just because you are a developer. Makes no sense.
Auch wenn wir niemals beste Freunde waren und vermutlich auch nie werden würden, empfind ich eine gewisse Betrübtheit ob deines Abschieds. Farewell. And for lores sake: "And now his watch has ended"
It takes a lot of trust to make you a moderator. It's like if you want to sign up to be a police IRL, they'd run some background check on you, more or less. If you are a dev, it'd be easier for you to pass that background check.
I've been wondering why you were still putting yourself in a position to have to put up with people's shit even thought you don't interact with this community too much anymore.
you litteraly haveno background check if you are a dev. Like seriously if you can code or are willing to do script work you become a dev and get mod powers, how stupid is that. Thats how the dev team now got their position. They shouldnt be forum mods.
cant you guys take your pubertal problems with authority somewhere people give a shit? like this forums would be moderated much, dont be pathetic. go stir up trouble elsewhere.
Power vacuum! This is just like how ISIS got started. Is that what you want? Fundamentalist extremists? I hope you are happy Gyver.
Wait, do you think all devs have mod power? Because that's not true, only like half devs have mod power. But I think McGvyer is the last non-dev moderator. "Being a dev that's contributing to the game" is a certification already. I agree that a new dev shouldn't be given with mod power ASAP. But why would you have problem with "devs being mods"?
Cause you can become dev easyer than you can become a mod. If you're a mod you've contributed and you know your public Look at what happend with catface tama etc they didnt know the community but they got mod because they got dev positions. The entire shitstorm with mrdie got stirred up because they as new devs didnt know the community like a non dev mod would. also didnt new devs like tama thexa catface instantly get mod? Cause it felt like they did
Tama and Catface are exceptions because they were "project lead".(this position was removed for reasons) I believe that shitstorm belongs to Catface 100%, please don't drag other devs into this. Catface's done absolutely nothing for a year and he's now removed. Also, come on, you need someone to give "non dev mod" his mod power.
To be fair there is absolutely nothing for the non-empires playing individual on these forums anymore. No threads on new games, or about new computer hardware, or anything interesting at all - and if you make a thread along those lines you'll get maybe one or two posts on it before it falls by the wayside.
oh come on this topic is totally a troll. mcgyver was the definition of inmate when he was made moderator. its part of the reason why i felt kinship to him also tama has no connection to catface please stop connecting them. beerdude recruited tama and he is good i was a moderator for months by accident
Another rare moment but I agree with paradox. A forum mod needs to be familiar with the community and know them well. Modding a forum/community and being a dev should have a different criteria. The two are not interchangeable. Becoming a dev you usually have one set of qualifications which does not automatically make one qualified to moderate a forum especially if the dev is relatively new or does not know the community well.
I think Trickster would be a good forum mod he knows everyone well and knows empires history better than most.
