Unpopular question inbound - exactly what games are people playing that warrant this level of graphics power? Obviously not Empires, and I don't see anyone ITT playing a game other than DotA which laptops can handle with relative ease...

There's a bunch of people playing star citizen, it kinda does need it. Past that arma and planetside I guess? Planetside runs rather well on low end cards sure, but it can look rather pretty on higher settings. I'm just taking a guess from looking at friends list. Oh, and gta5, though not as many playing as when it came out.

There's also something to be said about people playing on multiple monitors or higher resolution, mcgyver has a 4k monitor and I know I saw fooshi's setup with 3 monitors.

Yes, it's totally a pc masterrace thing. 1080p gaming can be done with any $200 card bought in the last three years. But Star Citizen in 4K...

You are still hyped for VR? Are you getting a Rift or Vive for yourself?

given how state of the art games look on a 2d screen i can only imagine how id wet my pants over them in 3d with head tracking - so yes, still kinda hyped.
but such games dont exist yet so its hard to tell. id opt for a vive atm, mainly because fuck facebook.
probably something i gift myself for xmas - still not sure if this one though.
