One of the many changes we have planned for 2.7.0 is the re-addition of Mk2's. This time in an updated configuration and all with their own unique (turret) models.

    Why...?
Back in the day Mk2s were actually well received by players. The reason they were removed however was because they ended up making mediums mostly obsolete as a bridge to heavy tanks. Mk2 were a lot easier and cheaper to get to than medium tanks, and especially on NF they proved particularly advantageous by being able to fit Tier 2 missile launchers (Including homing, bio ml, etc.).
One of the reason for adding them in the first place was because the vehicle balance was more in favour of BE late game. This was partially "fixed" by giving NF more of an advantage earlier game.
In general the issue was that they were an easy to get to upgrade rather than a side-grade. As a result, rather than tweaking them, they were removed.
Still, being that they were well-liked and people have come to us suggesting for them to be re-added, we are willing to consider it.

    What has changed?
First of all, the layout of the new Mk2s has changed. The cannon has been removed for the LT variant and the AFV no longer supports missile launchers, but can now support a 3 slot cannon. Both are still satisfying to use, but the LT variant is now clearly more of a side grade, with its advantages and disadvantages. The AFV variant is also viable now, especially with the changes to the plasma cannon and railgun. The latter should be seen more as a light anti-tank vehicle for cash-strapped late game BE teams. During tests it performed this role nicely.
Also, with the addition of more Tier 1 weapons (including a Tier 1 anti-vehicle MG), it's less necessary to rush for Mk2s. They are an optional part of strategy now, rather than an absolute must.

    Mk2 Medium tanks

Another idea we have explored was Mk2 medium tanks. The goal was as follows: While the light and AFV variants would explore already present factional combat orientations, the medium variants would revolve around elements mostly associated with the opposing team: Missiles for NF, and Cannons for a BE.
As a result, the Medium variants have the following loadouts:

    • NF Medium MK2: 3 slot CN, 2 slot MG.
    • BE Medium MK2: 2x2 slot missile launcher, 1 slot MG.
Responses were positive during tests. It should also be noted that a new Tier 3 CN has been added for NF that fits on their Mk2 medium.

    Alternatives:
    • Mk2 AFV could be fitted with a different layout. For example a 2 slot GL instead of an MG and/or reducing its 3 slot CN to a 2 slot.
    • If Mk2 mediums are ill received in subsequent tests there are still other concepts we'd like to try out. Like only making medium tanks able to fit Tier 3 weapons.

who needs cn's on a lt mk2? thats not what made them imba lol

the issues solely were mk2 lts and not because of the cn. i dismanteled rail heavies with my uml lt and it didnt even have a cn attached.

also - why? you could aswell create 1slot weapon variants for each tree.

I'm not sure how this fits in, but since the whole balance is getting thrown out the window, I'll have to wait and see for myself.

    Oh God.

It makes them less imba at close range. ^^

We have already done that. See Scar's thread from months ago.
