I don't think it will, however, you might run into problems with every recent performance graphics card. Those 30A required are calculated to be on the safe side, meaning that there can be multiple other devices connected to the same rail. With everything less than 30A you should dedicate a whole rail to it, the peak 22A of your current PSU might be sufficient, but it's not likely. #Edit: I've just talked to my dude, he's got a 400W Zalman PSU, 18A on +12V, 24A peak and it works just fine. I'm still not convinced it will run but it's possible.
I just upgraded my FX5200 to a 7600GSS, for only £60. http://www.computerxtras.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=2451 It runs SupCom, but not on high settings.
@Bodrick: Hmm thats mighty tempting to opt for that given its cheaper and wont require me upgrading my PSU. How much of a step down is that from the X1950 Pro? How much will a PSU cost that can handle the X1950?
It's quite a big step down but you will be better off. Don't buy the GS though, buy a GT (7600GT). It will run fine with your current PSU and has a decent amount of power. AGP is dying anyways. You won't be able to use the card in your next system.
ok I think ill go for the 7600 Whats the difference between the GS and the GT? I searched on e-buyer and computerxtras.co.uk but couldnt find the GT or GS on e-buyer; could you point me in the direction please please please? It's my birthday today :D
All are in form 7600GS - 7600GT Core frequency: 400MHz - 560MHz Memory interface: 128bit - 128bit Memory bandwidth: 12.8GB/s - 22.4GB/s Pixel fill rate: 3.2bn - 6.72bn Vertices: 700million - 500million
ok, so I see the GT is considerably better? I have been searching for it in online shops and found: http://www.idealcomputing.co.uk/products.asp?partno=22732367 http://www.dacomputers.com/store.php?targetcode=Z46280U Are they BOTH the correct card?
ever heard of XPERTVISION? I havent :S I just bought it without thinking about the brand.. do you think it will matter? Incidentally I checked both websites and couldnt find anything apart from XPERTVISION.
Naw, brand makes very little difference apart from warranty and support. Xpertvision looks legit, although I've never head of them personally. They're probably one of the few that still make AGP versions of older cards. Kinda cool that they use red PCB's, it's ussally blue, black or green for Nvidia cards. How do you like your card?
Xpertvision is one step cheaper than Powercolor (the previously cheapest ) The only problem I know of with cheap cards is the sometimes either insufficient or unnessesaryly loud cooling.
I hadn't heard of Xpertvision either, but my card works fine. It's a hella lot larger than my FX5200 Cooling isn't unnecessarily loud, the dual display works fine.
[sorta off topic] My 7800GT OC'ed had some fun with TA Spring. I mean, good framerate....then Niar and I started tossing nukes. Suddenly, I could count the frames on my one hand. Ouch. At my 7800GT performs like a 7900GT with the overclocking I did. [/offtopic]
Tell me about it. I thought the 6800GT was big (upgrade from Ti4200), but the 7800GT was even longer! And the 8800GTS is twice as bulky as the 7800GT (it has it's own heat pipe covering an entire PCI slot) and another inch longer. When I have the power plug inserted I can't remove my hard-drives anymore. I still could (barely with some awkward turning) with the 7800GT. Oh well, guess the case needs an upgrade next.
Hey there! I just got my 7600GT and have put it in my machine but it came with a number of cables and I dont know where they go! I dont really want to start my machine up before I know if I need them plugged in as I dont want to fry my new card! The first cable looks like some sort of scart.. a blue, yellow, green and red connectors coming from it - ? The second cable, one end plugs into the top right of the card and it has two things coming off it with white plastic plugs. Essentially it's a black plug with 6 wires coming off it, three of those to each white plug. The wire colours are yellow, brown and black. Help please? I was wondering if you guys could help me please?
Sounds like your VI/VO cables. Those are for connecting a TV or similar device. All you need to have plugged in is the card, possibly a power cable into the card and your screens cable.
I have drawn a picture of the cable I think might be the power cable... http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/4493/cableswa4.png Any ideas? Thanks for your help
It's probably a dual molex to 6-pin PCI-E connector. It supplies power to your card. See if you have two free plugs like Bodrik just posted and insert the power plug into the card. Make sure you take plugs from two different rails though. (Don't they supply manuals with stuff anymore?)
