The Vanduul have the scariest boarding ship ever. And the bigass Void bombers that carry them...
Whatever it is, the pictures are cool. I really hope this is actually playable and that I have time when the full-blown beta starts, I get that craving for a game in this vein every few weeks now.
At this point, it's just illustrations. Most of the code that we would consider to be "the game" doesn't exist in any meaningfully functional form (as far as we know). It's baby steps. For example, the fps portion seems to be coming together. Some folks seem to have gotten the fps piece of the leaked build working enough to show it off:
That wasn't leaked content. That was a very short clip of new content Chris Roberts revealed last night during E3. They must be really focused on the foundry 42 stuff. Chris Roberts had a website announcement that there would be something on the E3 PC Gamer Show, but instead of showing up, or even being live, Chris Roberts did some prerecorded bullshit with some very short glimpses of new content. This initially pissed me off a lot last night, but I've since realized this is pretty uncharacteristic and I think I know why. Foundry 42 cinematic stuff is pretty much the coolest thing to do for Roberts, given that he has been focused on cinematics his whole career. So I'm guessing he's fucked off to do that full scale and is paying even less attention to backer content. Given his career, I'm less irritated now. However, it better be fucking badass.
For now pretty much, they have done their best to kill the hype off. Chris Roberts' explanation why FPS is so delayed: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14803-Letter-From-The-Chairman
You know, when I heard of Star Citizen being developed I really would have wished for some sort of space traveling MMO game, flying in and out of planets trading/fighting with your crew in your ship or as ground units with several quests to pick up from varying NPCs or stations, planets which you discover to be volatile which you need specific equipment with to explore and such, but the progress they have shown is no where near my expectations. Maybe one day there will be a game like that...
No man's sky looks terrible. It's going to be cartoon style unimaginative generation of lifeforms that really have little to no impact. It reeks of Spore. It's going to be elite dangerous, with no one really around you, meaningless random generated events like the battles they showcased. I'm really disappointed so far. I hope it will be more, but at the moment that looks like what they have.
What would PvP space games be like if the ships required multi player crews? There's Guns of Icarus but that's not in space and it doesn't quite represent a spaceship but it's got the "things are going to shit really fast" feel to it.
