But due to being on an old process, they literally couldn't make the chip big enough to properly use all of that lovely new bandwidth. A new process next year will solve that problem entirely.

But aside from that, Nvidia also made the 980 ti a lot less cut down than what was anticipated and they made it a lot cheaper to boot.

So between amd being handcuffed by their interposer and Nvidia being more aggressive than expected, it's an honest toss up on both performance and price.

concerning performance, we don't have independent reviews yet, but amd released some benchmarking that didn't put the fury x in a very dominating position. And after considering amd's inherent bias with game choice and setting choice, I think it's fair to say that it's a situational toss up.

The only thing that might be in the favor of amd is overclocking. Based on pure speculation, the fury x will probably overclock like a boss due to its water cooler and abundance of stock memory performance. So you only need to overclock the SPs and there's probably a lot of headroom.

At least the 8 GB isn't useless for the press slides! :D

(I was half expecting the 970's bar to be 3.5 GB instead of 4 GB.)

That may indeed be the case. I decided to estimate TITAN X performance in the above benchmarks by looking at existing 4K 980 Ti vs. TITAN X benchmarks, taking the (TITAN X)/(980 Ti) ratios, and then multiplying the lengths of the 980 Ti bars by those ratios. Since I used different sites (TPU mainly) and wasn't picky on settings, take my results with a grain of salt. Sniper Elite 3 is excluded because I couldn't find any relevant benchmarks for that game.

    Inequalities:
    • Fury X > TITAN X: 6 of 11
    • TITAN X > Fury X: 5 of 11 (note that when the Fury X wins, it tends to win by a larger margin)
    Geometric means:
    • (Fury X)/(980 Ti) = 1.08
    • (TITAN X)/(980 Ti) = 1.05
    • (Fury X)/(TITAN X) = 1.03

So, you state that if you had won the lottery you would NOT tell us. Then you proceed not telling us. You are basically confirming that you have won the lottery.

CONGRATULATIONS BEERDUDE! Don't forget your friends here in the Empires community! Maybe you can organize an Empires con in some East European brothel?

    Good morning gents,

Only five and a half hours left until the NDA on Fury X reviews expires! It will be exciting to see if it can beat the 980Ti at 4K and max settings.

Hmm, not very impressive. I might just go for a R9 295x2 instead, it's 700€ right now. Or perhaps for a GTX 980 Ti? AAAAH, DECISIONS

Don't jump the gun before you see more noteworthy reviews, but yeah. This isn't the second coming of Christ.

Oh please, did you really had to post this absolutely bullshit review where the OC Fury is slower than the vanilla? Let's just wait for legit sources.

I know we're having fun goofing around and all, but let's get real for a moment. Until the tech report releases a review that properly looks at frame times instead of fps averaged over a second, then it's all shit.

295x2 routinely has pretty bananas fps and goes for only a penny or two, but it's all stuttery and shit so it's useless.

I'd rather take higher average frame times of it means less stuttering. And every gamer with a pair of human eyeballs will pretty much agree.

    EDIT So this is embarrassing...

EDITx2 Now I'm doubly sad. I think we need some driver updates because this ol' girl just ain't getting it done. It's stutter city out there.

All those reviews are deceiving, I excepted the fury X to be at least on par with the 980 Ti, if not more powerful :/

Maybe we get a price-performance king with the air-cooled Fury (without X).
