Teef asked a valid point yesterday about removing barbwire from nf walls as they obscure players from view. Here is a pic of requested change. It's down and dirty, but can be done with altering barbwire vtf's alpha channel. Took literally 1 min to do and needs no code.
I like how that has been done multiple times before. Came along with the rollbarless jeep for NF. The weirdest thing about the barbwire is when you are engi and literally sit in the wire for minutes raising walls on slaughtered's bridge using a calculator. I'm not for realisim in games, but that is just highly unrealistic. walls grown like trees...
Not to derail too much, but the scary thing about NF jeep rollbars is that they don't stop bullets at all. They only obscure your vision. And just like NF wall barbwire, there's nothing stopping individual players from fixing those issues for their own installation. For me, that seems a little scary.
1.Remove smoke particles from all weapons. 2.Add tracers to all weapons. 3.Colored skins. Makes seeing people a little easier. Also makes scout hide useless. 4.Recolor un-built buildings. So you know if that enemy rax is up yet. 5. Recolor mines to make them easier to spot. These are just ones that I've seen on youtube videos posted by admins and other active players. It sucks that servers don't have pure turned on. At least That would fix the material modding that gives people an unfair advantage.
Our pure in particular, since it's borked. And I find it funny that with all the hackjobs, those people still don't top the scoreboards

Not saying it's a bunch.(Wish we even had a bunch of people period) But most games don't play out like Empires. A simple thing like changing materials give and even bigger advantage in Empires as compared to other games. Being able to see if buildings are built, seeing that scout sneaking into your main, seeing mines from across the map, seeing tracers to see where your team is getting killed from. These are game changing things. And it's silly that all of it would be fixed with sv_pure. Yeah it's not a big issue but it is a simple fix. So why not ? What's the problem with blocking custom skins ? Yes there are ways around pure. But 99% of people who play Empires wouldn't know how to do it. If it ever became an issue there are ways to detect the bypass.
It's not like some random plugin that we are trying to duct tape together here. It's part of source. It works and just servers to be set up right. Servers need to have all materials for every map on the server white listed. That's it. That's why it wasn't allowing materials for some maps. Or pure can be set to only restrict set things. Like only allow stock player materials. You can have VPK verification. Where it forces loading files from VPK.(Candles said no VPK's) Or servers have to go threw and set what is allowed to be custom and what is not. For every thing restricted the server has to have the material unpacked and listed so that it can compare to the players files.
Well i know for a fact there were some people who made walls semi transparent and made mines have glow or have spikes, but that was ages ago.
