empiresmod.com had to be taken down right now as a precaution due to drupal sites everywhere getting hacked.
I fixed the manual and quick start guide not appearing, apache wasn't set to recognise 'index.htm' as an index page.

The quickstart guide doesn't work when you click on it in game, but the manual and quickstart guide can be found at these links:
    Manual
    Quick-start Guide

I am working on the wiki now, I also fixed the video id for youtube embedding not working sometimes due to some post formatting rules kicking in and messing it up.

It always was waiting for the first time to load, it just doesn't do it as often or for as long now. I suspect it's when no one has viewed the forum for too long.

it wasnt happening when it was on epic dns
if you ping the forums.empiresmod.com it takes exactly 30 seconds, every time

happens to me every time iam inactive for a bit

    it doesnt happen for empiresmod.com
    just the forums

and its happening for about 1 year now for me
didnt had this problem before that time

It did happen when it was on the epic-empires.co.uk domain.
Also pinging different sub domains will make no difference as they all point to epic's box.

I did an experiment while the forum was on Krenzo's box:
First connect to the forum from IP #1: The usual waiting time
Further connections from IP #1: Smooth sailing
Immediately after that, connecting with IP #2 (different provider): The waiting time is back

So I suspect it is something IP based, maybe some spam/DDOS prevention thingy?

I think I have isolated the cause of this slow down to a particular plugin on the forum, where basically the slow down would only occur once every 6 hours per client's ip address.

EDIT: I think I fixed it, a forum plugin was trying to contact a DNSBL that didn't exist any more and was waiting for it to timeout.
It feels like the forum goes even faster overall now too.

it just loaded fine for me

good job if you really fixed it

    more time on my breaks

EDIT: I agree that it seems faster overall
but Iam not sure if I can agree with that 6 hours interval, I swear it many times happened in even 1 hour of inactivity

EDIT2: here is the link I meant in above post http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/c79vHt/http://forums.empiresmod.com
and yes I was only "pinging" it through this website, not over cmd or etc...

Good job, I always thought it was because my host was just slow or the database needed pruning.

I think it was more a 6 hour interval per client ip address, so if your ip changed it would reset that.

    Regarding the recent server downtime:
The power cord had worked loose from the back of the server.
    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
