    Is it that time to introduce a ton of random untested changes, instead of incremental changes?

    Just when you get used to last releases shitty changes, we get a whole list of new ridiculous changes. Everyone is now Engie with rifle - since it is so strong. Armor on an apc can't be destroyed by a rifleman or gren. DU seems to be only weapon that can do damage to vehicles. I played one commander map, and one infantry map and since both are so badly hosed - I decided to buy some new games, instead of wasting my time in Empires.

    Any dev know how to test a release before dumping it on us? I guess not.

    Spartacus is neither a very experienced player nor an excellent player.

    I know I, as well as a dozen of other players can do the job better than Spartacus.
    But hey, we are lazy fuckers.

    On the other hand, Spartacus is willing to spend the time, that's why he's on the seat.

    I do have to agree with JGF on the armor bug, that really seemed like something that could be tested in 2 minutes in game before release.

    I wouldn't mind to be "assistant scripter", though.

    You can tell me what you are going to do with the script and I can instantly tell you what would happen.

    I'll say this much, I don't think adding more unique weapons that are easier for some people to use are a bad thing. I'm specifically talking about the bear/nfhr changes. These weapons are definitely not any better than the nfar/behr, but they do have the advantage of not needing such precise aim or recoil/spread control. A player can just spam bullets at someone else's direction. A competent player with the traditional rifles will win a shoot out, but at least people who aren't so good with the shooty part of empires have an easier time.

    Which is fine in the case of rifleman, it is anti infantry and making it easier for some people to fulfill that role is quite alright. It is just rifleman are kinda lacking in a solid long distance weapon now. I think a couple people suggested retooling the scout rifles to be like what the nfhr and bear were originally, just have to get rid of the scopes if you do that. Or ask firewarrior to make some more weapons. New stuff is always neat.

    What you guys seem to be missing a bit is that some people (like me) just prefer playing with a shotgun, just because it's a shotgun. I love those things, no matter how lucky or unlucky you can get with them.

    What I would suggest here is this:
    Revert back to what we had before the changes got so extreme. Then plan and announce (not only here, but on the Steam hub page as well), that you want to do test runs with new scripts and balancing. Get people to participate in them, but don't just throw that out on everyone out like a bucket of water in the face.

    We also need to do more PUGs, preferably regularly. I just take a look at the hub page and pretty much 90% I see is people remarking that nobody is playing. Announce PUGs way in advance, so people can plan for them.

    These rapid changes right now are not really doing anything to get this game rolling again.

    Concerning news and getting people to participate, I just had another idea:
    How about doing art contests? Not everyone can 3D model, but a lot of people can draw or at least design stuff and bring their ideas out in some other way. Say we make a contest for people designing a new NF pistol 1, we vote on the design and one of our modelers makes it.
    This would get people to participate, and me some new ideas.

    and please consider the following
    • dont test on district/urbanchaos/glycencity/escort/vehicletraining and thelike just because you dont have the "comm factor" there. the game couldnt be more different on those kind of maps ...
    • dont fix what is not broken
    • no drastic changes
    • dont just change values because you can.
    • dont listen to the vocal minority, BUT(!) dont ignore them either
    • empires is no pure FPS, neither a pure tank game nor a pure RTS, consider that balance doesnt mean balance in one of those 3 worlds, but balance among them.
    • dont alienate those who stuck around for 7+ years wiht odd changes because trollolol - consistency is key and without us the game would have been long dead ...

    For all the people suggesting Spartacus does playtests before he releases:

    There are barely enough players to play Empires to actually test these scripts as it is. How many people do you honestly expect to then go and play a test version?

    I tried running tests on virtually every iteration of scripts I did, I rarely ever got more than 3-4 people, when realistically to get a proper overview of how the changes were going, I needed at least 30 people playing for around 4 hours.

    The fact is, we're at the stage where the standard version of Empires is essentially a test version anyway now. Just enjoy the regular variety, provide constructive feedback and maybe you'll actually end up with a better game at the end of it. Or instead, bitch about any change at all, refuse to help and then be stuck with a game that's no fun to play. The choice is yours.

    And just to be clear, we did hold two infantry playtests during the week. One was a 1v1 against a rather skilled player (guess who got rekt) and the other was a 2v1 against some lesser skilled players (iPro).

    But yeah, widespread playtests are out the question. I had numerous people opt out of playing with me during the week. I'm not 1v1ing you for my health. I already know that I'm mlg pro.

    You'd definitely be on the list of people to bother when I want to playtest something. I tend to not bother people that are playing a game other than empires though. Unfortunately, the world doesn't revolve around Spartacus's needs (yet).

    Or you could post it in the forums that you're looking for people to test with some usual dates it could happen, so people won't be playing games during that time
