Books play out just like fantasies. It'd be weird if you couldn't have a fantasy and be aroused, that's like saying you haven't had a sexy dream  But if you just don't experience immersion in writing, that's fine...but I think that's unlikely to be the case since hell even with the communication with these forums you have a sort of mental picture of who you're talking to, coloured by how they are and how you perceive them. Sure, it's not technicolour, but more of a shadowed inflection of a person, but it's still a perception.
i put my balls under the line "jessica removed her skirt" so that my balls are on the character in the book
If you don't think people can be aroused by the written word then the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey must be the most confusing thing to you. Actually, scratch that. I think that and yet it's still confusing.
It's popular due to word of mouth and shock value, it's an 'erotic' novel that has reached the mainstream so the gawping idiots that have never picked up a book before are naturally intrigued. Call me a prude but I'd rather the sex scenes stayed in porn, thanks. Scenes in films, books and especially video games just make me cringe into oblivion. Gilbert Gottfried reads 50 Shades Of Grey (Iago from Aladdin.)
I recommend the Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey for the erotic scenes and the immersive writing which was like, literally the best thing I've read.
You know I was using a though shortcut, right? FSoG is a smut novel, its a porn fic. Its pretty much its only selling point that I know of. I daresay its very unlike your typical book. It still silly, but at least it has the excuse of praying on some weird sexual fantasies.
Dem women's romance novels been pretty much doing the whole erotic thing for a while. Sure there's pure romance, but...there's a lot of pretty steamy fiction out there for women. I mean, it's not like there's porn on the internet for them, lol.
I still cant get my head around believing that their are grown up mans out their that are completly obsessed with a cartoon for 5 year old girls.
Please this is not a thread for dumping things, especially when they are unrelated to literature. Yes, even if the video is about books, it still has nothing to do with literature.
he knows people don't appreciate bronies here and he didn't even post anything funny, even if it was something else dubbed to that song it wouldn't be a good video. We're sitting here having a good convo about books and literature and he comes in and posts a stupid link to a shitty youtube video, there's no reason for it. anyway, cue 20 page shitstorm and a complete derail, such is life
Then moderate it. Any Hunter S Thompson fans here? I've read both Fear and Loathing books and I'm very slowly working my way through his journalism collections. It's pretty difficult to comprehend, stream of consciousness writing, but it's well worth the effort. I've also given up on Heart of Darkness again, time to get the audiobook.
How far did you get on it? The plot and themes are quite interesting but I'll admit the writing style is heavy, and the quote nesting makes dialogues hard to keep track of who's speaking. Currently I'm on page 81, pretty much like 10 pages a day.
