General discussion on headphones, amps, programs, recording etc. Just curious as to what setups everyone uses. I'd ask on a HiFi forum but they're always snobby bellends who want to put fucking vacuum tubes in everything.

I'm currently using modified Koss Porta Pros for my PC and MP3 player and using a shitty M-Audio Fast Track as a soundcard, (it's also what I use for recording.) The Porta Pros are awesome, best sound you'll get from any headphones of a similar design, certainly anything in the same price range.

I did have a set of Shure studio cans but they were made with brittle plastic so yeah.

I can't hear a difference between my AKG and the earplugs that came with my smartphone.

Because i did not know that before i had AKGs.

Related question: What do i have to do to get rid of the static noise coming out of my headphones while playing games? I know it has something to do with interference from the motherboard or so, are there special motherboards with a better shielded headphone jack?

Is it background noise or bursts of loud static?

Most quality issues like that are due to either bad or worn connectors, or AC power cables near the audio cable.

and if what candles said doesnt help - get a dedicated soundcard, or if thats not enough, get an external one.

Probably an old and creaky motherboard. It is the kind that make extra noise when there are things happening in your PC and onscreen? If so then get a dedicated soundcard, they're dirt cheap and can often work as a headphone amp as well.

That amp is just adorable. :|ove: I hope you didn't spend more on that than the headphones.

Ha, I got one of those m audio fast track things from my brother. He wasn't using it and ended up getting some fancy pedal board that does what he needs. Don't use them currently though, didn't feel like installing drivers. Just use the connection off my speakers, can't connect directly to the pc cause the jacks give funny static noise, kinda like mcgyver.

I do have a set of ath-m50 headphones. I like how they block off outside noise and don't really leak shit either. Though after having them I know I would probably like a more open design, I'm not into all this bass, it ends up overshadowing the mids and highs a bit.

Also am I a terrible person for using the equalizer on my motherboard's sound card?

How? My only experience with fabric cords is that they just rub against your clothing when you move and you hear all that friction happening. Smooth old plastic stuff doesn't have that problem. Though to be fair, the ones I had were really cheap, so if the wire is more isolated I guess that isn't a problem.

I wish every cable I had was braided.

No tangles or kinks, easier to tie up and untie. I actually really recommend Marley headphones and buds because they're cheap yet have really solid construction and braided cables.
